Job Description Summary

The Assistant Controller’s main areas of responsibility are to monitor and report on manufacturing operations, assist in the creation and evaluation of product standards, provide immediate feedback to managers, assist in the budgeting process and assist the Controller. The position will act as a backup to the Controller.


Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Monitoring of SAP
    • Weekly monitoring of manufacturing data through Business Warehouse reports in the following areas:
  • Consumption of Raw Material compared to Standard
  • Consumption of Packaging Material compared to Standard
  • Labor Variances
  • Report on manufacturing performance
    • Provide analysis of labor efficiencies by cost center and production order when necessary
    • Provide analysis of material yields and variances in total and provide data by component when relevant
    • Provide analysis on output by cost center comparing actual production with targets
    • Monthly, create energy analysis report with commentary
    • Monthly, create waste analysis
    • Monthly create key ingredient and packaging cost tracking
    • Assist in the continuing development of performance reporting
    • Closing production orders and work orders
    • Reevaluate inventory at FIFO and at month end
    • Close cycle/cost centers at month end
  • Work with other departments to stabilize the data flow to SAP
    • Work closely with Payroll and Benefits Associate with the manual reporting of mfg. labor hours to properly distribute payroll dollars at month end
    • Assist in the creation of BOM and product routings within SAP
    • Assist in the development of cost center budgets
    • Communicate with Corporate GL accountants to facilitate coordination of the financial processes
    • Provide product cost information as needed for profitability analysis and initiatives
  • Other
    • Verify all production orders are closed
    • Verify all production orders have variances calculated
  • All other duties as assigned.

  • Follows all safety rules and procedures by working safely and ensuring safety of others.
  • Follows all environmental protocols as applicable to the job.
  • Follows all Good Manufacturing Practices as stated within the policy.
  • Follow all food safety procedures.
  • Maintains a sanitary and safe work area; performs housekeeping duties as necessary and/or required.
  • Detects potentially hazardous conditions and problems and takes appropriate action to report and/or correct.

Knowledge and Experience Requirements

  • A Bachelor’s Degree in Finance or Accounting with 3-5 years of related work experience is required.
  • Experience in the dairy and/or food processing environment is preferred.
  • SAP experience is strongly preferred.
  • Demonstrated knowledge and experience with Microsoft Office programs (Excel, Word, and Power Point, among others) is required; advanced Excel skills is a plus.
  • Experience with lean manufacturing is preferred.

Working Environment: Work is performed largely in an office environment. Hours of work will generally be during regular business hours and average at least 40 hours a week. There will be some variation in work hours due to employee shift schedules, special projects, deadlines and other concerns.
