We are looking for an Assistant Controller, Marketplaces to join us.

You will be responsible for advising executive leadership on all operations accounting aspects relating to the operation of our Marketplace segment, which includes Society6, Saatchi Art and The Other Art Fair, as well as supporting our Controller on various corporate accounting processes and company wide initiatives.

You’ll Report To: VP, Controller

A typical day might include:

  • Manage complex accounting and financial processes including accounting transactions for all operations accounts and departments for our marketplaces division.
  • Manage all general accounting procedures related to corporate accounting functions consisting of fixed assets, leases, intangibles, and corporate accruals.
  • Responsible for overseeing day-to-day general ledger accounting while participating in month-end close, including review of journal entries, account reconciliations and preparation and review of financial reporting deliverables and flux analyses.
  • Develop, lead and maintain a team of highly motivated, result-oriented individuals through effective leadership practices; ensures adequate staffing levels to maintain efficient team performance. Team inclusive of five direct reports and one indirect report.
  • Dive into the details and identify difficulties, eliminate inefficiencies by revamping processes and utilization of internal systems and tools.
  • Review and complete accounting schedules prepared by the team.
  • Work with internal/external auditors for all operational accounting related items, ensuring internal controls are properly executed and financial statements are accurate for all operational accounting items (and their corresponding balance sheet accounts).
  • Ensure execution of appropriate accounting treatment on complex accounting issues in accordance with US GAAP.
  • Ensure compliance with SOX for all operational accounting controls
  • Evaluate and continually improve accounting procedures, processes and systems to ensure standardized close process and efficient operations
  • Meet and establish department goals and provide updates to leadership on all major projects, goal progress, and employee issues.
  • Work effectively in a high growth environment - comfortable in both individual contributor roles and cross-functional team management roles, depending on what is required by the business at the time.
  • Support the group through an Upgrade and implementation of a new ERP system.
  • Prepare and present various ad hoc analyses as requested.


What you have:

  • Bachelors in Accounting, Finance or related field or applicable experience, CPA required.
  • Minimum of six years of accounting experience with a minimum of three years of management experience.
  • Possesses experience in engaging, growing, and developing teams and a passion for being a role model, for making a difference and doing the right thing.
  • Proven expertise in applying technical accounting to actual results and a proven track record of managing teams handling large volumes of transactional data and being able to step back and look at the big picture.
  • Strong analytical and multi-tasking skills, excellent problem solving skills, attention to detail and follow through
  • Advanced knowledge of Excel required, plus working knowledge of other Microsoft Office programs
  • Experience in Oracle (on Prem or Fusion) a plus.
  • Must show accountability, be proactive, and have excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Discretion in handling confidential and sensitive matters
  • Excellent English language verbal and written communication.

The starting base pay for this role is between USD 160,000 and USD 180,000 . The actual base pay is dependent upon many factors, such as: training, transferable skills, work experience, business needs and market demands. The base pay range is subject to change and may be modified in the future. This role may also be eligible for bonus, benefits, and other perks.
