The Virginia Beach Sports Center sets the stage for athletes to test their will at the highest level.
This state-of-the-art facility will host a diverse roster of sporting events and tournaments when it opens in November 2020. The venue is located across the street from the Virginia Beach Convention Center and just steps away from local shops, restaurants and attractions, including the beautiful boardwalk and beaches of the Virginia Beach Oceanfront.
The Virginia Beach Sports Center (VBSC) boasts 285,000 square feet of custom-configurable space, including 9 Field Hockey courts, 12 basketball courts, 24 volleyball courts, a 200 meter, hydraulically banked track, 64 wrestling mats, and seating for 5,000 spectators. Additionally, VBSC provides 5 meeting rooms and a 400-seat kitchen/concessions area.
The Virginia Beach Sports Center is managed by Eastern Sports Management (ESM) based in Fredericksburg, Virginia. ESM’s management portfolio consists of venues in Virginia, Pennsylvania, and Tennessee.
The Virginia Beach Sports Center is currently accepting applications for an Assistant Tournament Director - Operations. The Assistant Tournament Director - Operations is responsible for assisting in the management of the organization’s tournaments. This includes but is not limited to systems, processes, sales and marketing, planning, execution, evaluation, staffing and budgets. The Assistant Tournament Director - Operations coordinates all programs with other departments to ensure smooth business operations. The Assistant Tournament Director reports to the Operations Director.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
- Conduct tournament planning for current and future needs
- Design the organization’s tournament policies and procedures
- Direct service hours as event coordinator and guest services
- Manage all contracts and prepare for GM or Tournament Director signature
- Assist with the development of Event Orders
- Respond to and/or delegate all emails and phone calls
- Maintain close contact with the City of Virginia Beach regarding tournament/event weekend schedules
- Plan, setup, execute, breakdown, clean up, and evaluate all tournament and VBSC league programs
- Build customer relationships for continued sales and retention
- Monitor sales and tournament sales forecasts using DASH software
- Managing daily deposits and revenue reports
- Recruit, manage, supervise, evaluate staff
- Maintain equipment inventory
- Execute all Event Orders
- Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written

- 4-year degree in a related field preferred
- 3-5 years of industry experience preferred
- Google suite proficiency preferred
WORK ENVIRONMENT
The work for the Assistant Tournament Director will normally take place in a climate-controlled office environment. There may be times when job duties require working outside in natural environmental conditions (heat, cold, humidity) and noisy areas during tournaments.
