POSITION SUMMARY

Under the direction of the Senior Transportation Manager, the Assistant Transportation Manager is responsible for the successful management and operation of the inbound and outbound freight. The position manages all inter-company transfers, outbound transportation services to all customers in the Americas, direct shipments from overseas to customers in Americas.


ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

  • Provide operational leadership to logistics team and ensure the execution of daily tasks and activities including driver deliveries, loading/unloading of trailers, and customer service operations in a manner consistent with company services and cost objectives.
  • Supervise logistics operations including customer service, freight loading and unloading, dispatch and proper documentation and procedure control.
  • Handle all aspects of logging orders, routing, shipping and tracking outbound orders.
  • Inform transporters for freight pick-up and ensure that cargo is routed appropriately.
  • Prepare and verify bills of lading.
  • Maintain high levels of customer service, and ensure complete orders are transported to meet distributor/customer needs.
  • Confirm that all orders are shipping on time and reports schedule changes to appropriate parties.
  • Monitor shuttle drivers and ensure driver activities are efficient and consistently moving.
  • Monitors driver performance ensuring company’s policies including state, federal and DOT laws and regulations are in compliance. Enforces strict adherence to both State & Federal transportation rules and regulations.
  • Performs management functions of staff selection, development, discipline and performance reviews.
  • Conduct safety observations.
  • Perform other duties as required or assigned.

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES

This position directly supervises 4-5 other transportation staff.


QUALIFICATIONS

To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each major responsibility satisfactorily.   • EDUCATION, SKILLS and EXPERIENCE
    • High School Diploma required. At least five (5) years of hands-on experience in logistics environment or equivalent combination of education and experience.
    • This position requires a customer-oriented, results driven, self-motivated, and self-confident individual with strong communication skills. Specifically, the individual must include solid knowledge of or experience in:
      • Intermodal transportation.
      • At least 3 years of working experience working with such as brokers/third-party logistics (3PL), freight forwarder and trucking company. Knowledge of Import/Export is helpful.
      • Coordinating logistics and shipping directly to large retail chains and distributors.
      • Handling a large number of orders.
      • Flow of supply chain & logistic processes - from order, invoices, to cash.
    • The individual must be able to define problems through data gathering and analysis, establish facts and draw valid conclusions.
    • He/ she must be able to interpret a variety of instructions in mathematical or diagram form and deal with several abstract and concrete variables.


  • LANGUAGE SKILLS
  • This individual must possess excellent communication and presentation skills both written and verbal.
  • Must be fluent in English.
  • Spanish is preferred.


  • MATHEMATICAL SKILLS
  • The candidate must be able to apply mathematical concepts to compute rates, discounts, percentages, and draw and interpret bar graphs.
  • Working knowledge of SAP (preferred), Word, Excel, etc. is required.


  • PHYSICAL DEMANDS
