As Universal Avionics' Avionics Systems Integration Engineer III, your work will consist of assisting system engineering, sales and the business development group with proposals and customer integration of Universal Avionics equipment that adhere to FAA and EASA rules and regulations.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities include the following:

  • Assist and support Sales Organization with technical issues and guidance for developing presentations, proposals and/or responses to RFIs.
  • Perform equipment surveys on potential rotorcraft or fixed-wing customers aircraft to assess potential integration issues or the need for development activities.
  • Create block diagrams, instrument/pedestal layout diagrams and port I/O allocation spreadsheet for potential customer aircraft configurations.
  • Act as engineering liaison between Sales, Business Development and the Engineering team.
  • Perform integration testing of avionics equipment with Universal Avionics equipment to assess compatibility.
  • Perform integration testing of Universal Avionics for upgraded software during the development process to assess system interactions with external equipment.
  • Other duties may be assigned.

Education and/or Experience:

  • Bachelor’s degree (B.S.) in science/engineering, or a math discipline and experience in systems engineering or equivalent experience. Non-degreed persons having considerable experience working in an avionics design environment, will also be considered.
  • Team player with professional attitude capable of performing in a fast-paced, deadline-driven environment.
  • 7+ years of experience in avionics engineering or design environment.
  • Knowledge of applicable certification/development standards and guidance, including ACs, TSOs, GAMA, SAE, and MOPS associated with aircraft avionics systems, especially head-up and head-down displays, engine indication, cockpit alerting systems, flight guidance, and flight management systems.
  • Ability to perform as a flight crew member to support avionics systems testing during ground and flight tests.
  • Experienced in developing and analyzing avionics integration designs. A thorough understanding of aircraft avionics systems architecture. Knowledge of avionics communication interfaces, including ARINC 429, RS-422, ARINC 708, ARINC 664, as well as various analog signal interfaces.
  • Possessing an Official Certificate of Authority from the FAA as a Designated Engineering Representative in the areas of (Electrical) Systems and Equipment is desirable.

Computer Skills:

  • Proficient with a personal computer, computer operating systems, word processing, spreadsheet programs and ability to type.
  • Experience with developing drawings using AutoCAD or similar computer-aided design and drafting software application.

Language Skills:

Poses the ability to provide clear written and verbal English communication of system integration concerns to software, and hardware engineering teams, product support, manufacturing, marketing/sales, management, customers, and certification authorities.

Mathematical Skills:

Understanding of mathematics (algebra, geometry, trigonometry, probability and statistics, logic, sets and number systems).

Reasoning Ability:

  • Ability to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form.
  • Ability to assimilate information from diverse sources to form a complete situational picture and develop a plan of action to accomplish the task.
  • Ability to extract system requirements from regulations and industry specifications.

Work Environment:
