Position Summary:

The Banquet Captain is responsible for providing exemplary guest service and seamless operation of Banquet functions. Additionally, the Banquet Captain is responsible for the training and supervising servers during an event and assigning servers to event tasks that are aligned with the capabilities of each individual server.

Major Responsibilities & Work Activities:

Guest Service:

• Maintain positive attitude through adverse situations
• Extend warm, friendly greeting to host of function
• Review event order with host and take appropriate action as changes are needed
• Coordinate host special requests
• Communicate host's needs clearly to service personnel and manager
• Thank host at departure

Operations:

• Ensure staffing is appropriate
• Complete equipment checklist prior to the day of the event
• Assist in transportation, set up and breakdown of banquet function
• Carry out instructions and inspect room for proper set-up according to event order.
• Inspect banquet areas (front and back of the house) for cleanliness, order and maintenance, taking corrective action when needed.
• Be knowledgeable of food and beverage menu for each event.
• Conduct pre-meeting before event, assigning stations and duties to servers.
• Maintain positive communication with the kitchen, service personnel and managers.
• Communicate with managers regarding guest comments and complaints.
• Inform chef of timing, guarantee numbers and special requests.
• Know and follow Californialiquor laws, ensuring that alcohol is not served to intoxicated guests or minors.
• Ensure that servers take breaks as appropriate during events.
• Complete and return beverage requisitions at conclusion of event.

Supervision:

• Oversee up to 10 servers per event.
• Train servers regarding Meadowood service standards and procedures.
• Assign servers to banquet event tasks.
• Ensure adherence to all service standards and procedures.
• Provide continual supervision of servers before, during and after event.

Experience Required:

• Three years in fine dining service related catering field.

Physical Demands of Position:

• Able to be on feet, walking for long periods of times
• Lifting of items up to 25 pounds
• Bending, squatting, kneeling and reaching

Working Conditions:

• General restaurant environment, both in and out of doors.
• Required to work Weekends, Holidays and special events.
• Kitchen and staging area in close quarters.
