As a Behavioral Health Consultant you will facilitate access to behavioral health services for children and families involved in the dependency system. The Behavioral Health Consultant will coordinate and deliver comprehensive behavioral health services as well as assisting with locating providers, scheduling appointments and coordinating referrals for clinically indicated services.

Some of the Functions Include:

  • Facilitates education about treatment options, promotes engagement and ensures monitoring and follow-up care.
  • Provide brief behavioral interventions using evidence-based techniques such as behavioral activation, problem-solving treatment, motivational interviewing, or other treatments as appropriate.
  • Coordinate the sharing of health information between providers and other programs.
  • Manage coordination and tracking of services referral for families involved in Dependency system and ensuring there is efficient and effective tracking referrals.
  • Works closely with other programs staff to plan integrated services for all children and their families (e.g. behavioral health, medical, parent and community engagement).
  • Regularly oversee case managers’ documentation for mental health services compliance and monitors and tracks follow up items.

Minimum Education

  • Master’s Degree in Social Work or Psychology

Minimum Experience

  • Minimum 2 years’ experience in the delivery of behavioral health services in a community mental health or primary health care environment, with a working knowledge of behavioral health diagnosis and treatment interventions.
  • Experience with screening for common mental health and/or substance abuse disorders. Working knowledge of differential diagnosis of common mental health and/or substance abuse disorders, when appropriate.

Skills Needed

  • Ability to work with Electronic Health Record.
  • Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively verbally and in writing.
  • Demonstrated ability to collaborate and communicate effectively in a team setting.
  • Ability to work with clients by telephone, as well as in person.
