Ray's Station Winery is located in Hopland, CA and is part of the Vintage Wine Estates portfolio. Vintage Wine Estates is one of the nation's largest wine producers with Ray's Station as it's central production facility in Mendocino County, It is currently expanding by adding a 265,000 square-foot case goods warehouse. Ray's Station handles much of the bottling for California brands that aren't estate-bottled. They also handle custom crush and bottling projects for vintners outside the portfolio.

POSITION SUMMARY:

Under direct supervision, carries out all assigned work functions performed in the Bottling Department. Must be able to rotate between forklift, uncasing/stacking, foiling, hand/machine packing, Quality inspection, bottling line rework/reconditioning and general line cleanup. Ability to troubleshoot basic bottling processes and promptly report problems. May provide work leadership and/or training support to other employees.

SALARY RANGE: $18.50 - $20.50/hour based on experience

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

General production work includes, but is not limited to the following:

  • Uncasing Station: Place cases of glass onto case conveyor, confirm that glass / carton is correct, monitor uncasing unit.
  • Filler Room: Monitors the filling and corking operation. Provides checks to ensure that fill levels and screw cap applications are correct, cork vacuum is corrected and that the supply of corks or screw cap is maintained. Calls any problems to the attention of the Bottling Mechanic and or line lead.
    • Foiling Station: Monitors the operation of the foil application and smooth down operations. Keeps the applicators supplied with foils, corrects or removes bottles without foils.
    • Quality Control Inspection: Reviews line specification sheets and Monitor product to ensure proper application of labels, foils, corks, screw caps, etc.
  • Downtime logging: Records all applicable downtime for their area of responsibly and provides report to Lead or Supervisor prior to shift end.
  • Packing Station: Monitors the palletizing and shrink wrapping of finished goods. Assists with attachment of pallet tags and other signage.
  • Bottling Line Cleanup: Responsible for facilitating rework / reconditioning, general clean up and housekeeping of any assigned area(s).
  • Provides assistance with bottling line changeovers, preventive maintenance, and filler, filter and line sanitation procedures.
  • Communication: Participates at and contributes to team meetings. Assists in the development of improved procedures and techniques. Helps train, evaluate and retrain new team members.
  • As needed performs all forklift and pallet jack related responsibilities including generation and attachment of pallet tags, loading/unloading of trucks and preparation of bills of lading. Provides accurate and timely production counts.
  • Follows standard operating procedures in the performance of all bottling activities to ensure maximum productivity and wine quality objectives are achieved.
  • Adheres to all safety policies and procedures, including but not limited to timely and accurate reporting of all work-related injuries and illnesses to the supervisor, promoting safety awareness to co-workers, advising the supervisor of any unsafe acts and conditions and wearing required personal protective equipment.
  • Additional duties and responsibilities as assigned.

REQUIRED SKILLS:

  • Ability to read and interpret documents such as bottling line procedures, safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals.
  • Ability to effectively communicate, read and write in English
  • Ability to assist in the diagnosis and adjustment of bottling equipment and processes.
  • Accuracy and attention to detail are essential.
  • Must demonstrate good math skills, add, subtract, multiply and divide in all units of measure using whole numbers, common fractions and decimals

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • High school diploma or general education degree (GED) required
  • Minimum of two years’ experience in all phases of bottling operations or equivalent experience

  • Current forklift certification and ability to operate a forklift and pallet jack
  • Versatility, flexibility, and a willingness to work in an evolving environment with enthusiasm
  • Bilingual preferred

PHYSICAL/MENTAL REQUIREMENTS:

  • The bottling line presents a challenging environment and may present exposure to hazardous conditions.

  • Hearing and eye protection equipment are required in all bottling areas.
  • Alertness and the ability to quickly respond to equipment malfunctions is required.
  • Must be able walk up and down stairs, climb ladders, bend, crouch, squat, stand and walk for extended periods as required by job duties
  • Must be able to lift 50 lbs. on a continuous basis.
  • Coordinate multiple tasks simultaneously
