Capital Power Corporation is currently seeking an innovative and results-oriented individual to join our Business Development USA team!

Reporting to the Director, Business Development, as the Business Development Manager, you are responsible for managing the development or acquisition of utility-scale power generation assets in the US, including wind, solar, storage, and thermal assets. You will be primarily responsible for leading cross-functional project development or due diligence teams and maintaining strong relationships with market participants in support of business development strategies and objectives.

You will contribute to our team by

  • Identifying and evaluating opportunities to develop or acquire renewable, storage and thermal power generation assets in support of corporate growth targets for the US development team.
  • Leading and/or coordinating cross-functional project development and due diligence teams under the supervision of the Director, Business Development.
  • Assisting in the preparation of documents, presentations, and other materials for Senior Management and the Board of Directors, including project investment recommendations in line with corporate screening criteria.
  • Building and maintaining strong relationships with load-serving entities, project stakeholders, project developers and other market participants.
  • Supporting the development of annual business and strategic plans and development budgets.
  • Leading and/or participating in the negotiation of off-take agreements, joint venture agreements, lease agreements, project permits, financing documents and other contractual arrangements.

What you will bring to the role

Education:

  • Undergraduate Degree in Engineering, Finance, Economics, or related discipline.
  • MBA or relevant graduate degree is preferred, but not required.

Experience:

  • Combined 5+ years of related experience in business development/project management. Candidate having experience in energy industry is required.
  • Minimum 2 years in a related business development role.
  • Knowledge of energy markets in the US, including, but not limited to, market structures and design, transmission infrastructure and strategic and financial competitors.
  • Technically proficient with renewable or thermal power generation technologies.
  • Previous experience in development of utility-scale wind, solar or storage projects is required.
  • Experience with structuring land leases, land acquisition transactions, and development site acquisitions is desirable.
  • Ideally would have successfully closed one or more transactions in a former role.
  • Experience with structuring transactions for acquisition of utility-scale wind, solar and storage power generation assets is highly desirable.

Technical Skills:

  • Demonstrated quantitative, qualitative analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Possess effective oral and written communication skills.
  • Proficient project management skills as well as the ability to excel in a dynamic and multi-disciplinary project team environment with the ability to adapt to change.
  • Ability to lead and facilitate effective meetings.
  • Above average knowledge of legal language and contracts.
  • Reasonable level of financial analysis skills, including familiarity with accounting principles and financial reporting.

Social Process Skills:

  • Proven ability to communicate and delegate effectively in a cross-functional environment.
  • Self-motivated and passionate about the energy industry.
  • Demonstrated problem-solving abilities with complex concepts.
  • Team player who promotes a culture of innovation and quality.

Working Condition

  • This position involves up to 30% travel.
  • Remote work from home position.

Additional Details

This position will remain open until a suitable candidate is found.

The pay range for this position is $124,000 to $150,000. The specific rate will depend on the successful candidate’s qualifications and prior relevant experience.

This position is eligible for health care benefits, retirement benefits, paid time off, and annual bonus.

As this is a safety sensitive position, clearance of a pre-employment drug test is required.
