Minimum qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree from an accredited institution in a field of study related to the work assignment.
  • Three years of professional experience in a child welfare agency.

Job description:

This position assists in oversight and development of program and policy for issues impacting older youth who are involved with child welfare in Colorado. Primary duties include monitoring county programs for adherence to state rules and regulations, providing technical assistance to counties on issues impacting older youth who are involved with child welfare and program area 4 (“youth in conflict” or “beyond control of parent”), extended foster care, reentry for eligible former foster youth, and developing policies and guidance for these programs. In addition to county departments of human/social services, this position interacts with many stakeholders including runaway and homeless youth providers, local education agencies, other state agencies, non-profit organizations, and young people.

Division of Child Welfare:

The Division of Child Welfare (DCW) provides a range of leadership, management and supervisory functions related to the administration of child welfare services to children, youth, and families. DCW provides supervision for all child welfare programs in Colorado's 64 counties and delivers technical support, monitoring, program improvement, regulatory oversight and other quality assurance functions.

The Youth Services Unit oversees preventive programs and programs targeting youth involved or formerly involved in the child welfare system in Colorado. These include the Chafee Foster Care Independence Program, the Unaccompanied Refugee Minors Program, the National Youth in Transition Database, the Foster Youth in Transition program, and other ongoing services for older youth in child welfare cases. In a state-supervised, county-administered child welfare system, this unit sets policy and procedures relating to older youth for the 64 county departments of social/human services.
