The East Coast Province of the Society of Jesus, one group within the Society of Jesus in the United States and one part of the worldwide body of Jesuits, has a part-time job opening for a Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA). The CNA will work every other weekend shift from 11 pm - 7 am.

The Certified Nursing Assistant, or CNA, is responsible for supporting medical staff in administering care to patients with various injuries, illnesses or disabilities. Their duties include helping patients bathe and maintain proper hygiene, feeding patients or ensuring they take their medication and assessing their patients’ vital signs to notify staff of any changes. The CNA will provide quality nursing care to residents in an environment that promotes their rights, dignity, freedom of choice and individuality in accordance with the plan of care. This position will report to the Director of Health Services.

  • Provides individualized attention which encourages each resident's ability to maintain the highest practical physical, mental, and psycho-social well-being.
  • Is knowledgeable of the individualized care plan for residents and provides support to the residents according to their care plan. Contributes to the care planning process by providing the nurse with specific information and observations of the residents' needs and preferences.
  • Attends to the individual needs of residents, which may include assistance with grooming, bathing, oral hygiene, feeding, incontinent care, toileting, transferring, ambulation, range of motion, colostomy care, communicating or other needs in keeping with the individuals' care requirements.
  • Maintains the comfort, privacy, and dignity of residents in the delivery of services to them. Interacts with residents in a manner that displays warmth and promotes a caring environment and fully understands all aspects of residents' rights. Is responsible for promptly reporting to the director or designee any evidence of resident abuse.
  • Assists in maintaining a safe, neat and clean environment and reports deficiencies to the director or designee. Protects the personal belongings of each resident and promptly reports missing items to the nurse and participates in efforts to locate missing items.
  • Makes observations of resident's condition/behavior and reports to shift nurse any changes in the resident. Receives report on assigned residents' condition at beginning of shift and reports to nurse at the end of shift.
  • Provides care that maintains each resident's skin integrity to prevent pressure ulcers, skin tears and other damage by changing incontinent residents, turning, repositioning immobile residents and by applying moisturizers to fragile skin and other areas.
  • Performs other tasks assigned by the nurse such as weighing residents, collecting specimens etc.
  • Lifts, moves and transports residents, using proper body mechanics and lifting devices for accident prevention.
  • Completes nursing assistant records documenting care provided according to Manresa Hall policy.
  • Performs all job responsibilities in accordance with fire and safety and infection control procedures. Assists in the evacuation of residents if necessary.
  • Attends/ Participates in mandatory staff education programs.
  • Responsibly uses and conserves use of supplies, maintains equipment in good working order. Reports malfunctioning equipment to the nurse promptly.
  • Willing to work as a team member and cooperates with all staff. Supports policies, practices and work rules as outlined in the Personnel Handbook and the Policy and Protocol Handbook.
  • Extends courtesy to visitors and to all persons associated with Manresa Hall. Exemplifies a willingness to work harmoniously with other staff, with residents and with other members of the Jesuit Community.
  • Respects the right, dignity, confidentiality and protected health information of each resident and member of the Jesuit Community.
  • Performs other related duties as assigned by the nurse or the Director of Manresa Hall.

REQUIREMENTS:
Education:

  • A high school graduate or GED with ability to read, write and understand English.
  • CNA certification is required. Must be a responsible and conscientious worker and able to make appropriate recommendations as a member of the team of care providers.

Experience:

  • Previous experience and/or training in working with the elderly preferred.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

  • Must have visual and auditory acuity and articulate clearly. Must meet the general health requirements of Manresa Hall.

Physical Demands and Work Environment:

  • The essential function of this job requires standing, walking, kneeling, and crouching.
  • The employee must be prepared to frequently lift or move objects and residents weighing over fifty pounds.
