Rose Art Museum seeks a highly detailed oriented, energetic, creative and collegial Collections Care and Exhibition Production Assistant to support a broad range of collections care, exhibition preparation and registration functions within Collections Management to ensure a safe environment for the works of art in the collection and on loan. Responsibilities include but are not limited to support of safe art storage protocols, collections re-housing initiatives, accessioning artwork, packing/shipping coordination, installation and artwork preparations, database information, digital imaging/condition reporting, gallery maintenance and materials/ supply coordination.
This position is full-time (35 hours/week) in person and on site, Monday - Friday plus occasional evenings and weekends, scheduled with notice.
Key Responsibilities:
Safe handling of works of art, per Museum standards, for internal purposes and support of exhibition installation. Including receiving and releasing fine art shipments, movement, packing, unpacking and performing condition assessments. 15%

Assists with physical installation, preparing objects for installation new backing boards, coordinates matting, framing, and has mechanical ability. 10%
Assume primary responsibility for gallery and storage maintenance, dusting and pest management schedules. 15%
Coordination of collections care and exhibitions material and supply inventories. 5%

Fabrication of storage housings, inventory and condition reviews. 10%
Assists with maintenance of registration files, reports, cataloging including provenance, location changes, exhibition history, images and inputs new data into EmbArk database and share drives. 10%

Assistance with the care, maintenance, preservation and documentation of artworks managed by the museum either temporarily or permanently. 10%
Collaborates with external requests for collections and exhibitions research and inquires; rights and reproductions. 5%
Works closely with temporary installation staff, vendors, contractors and other museum stakeholders to produce exhibitions and maintain collections care and storage safety. 10%

Maintain inventory of collections care and exhibition supplies, placing orders as needed and authorized; including researching upgrades and maintain tracking. 5%
Perform administrative tasks related to collections, exhibitions, registration, archive, and research. 5%
Job Requirements:
  • Bachelor degree in Studio Arts, Art History, Museum Studies, Design, Architecture, or similar field preferred or commensurate work experience.
  • At least 1-2 years of experience in a museum, gallery or art organization setting.
What you need to succeed:
Detailed oriented, and ability to switch task and juggle multitude priorities.
Demonstrated knowledge of museum collections care, installation techniques and art handling.
Respect of confidentiality of sensitive collection and museum data is required.
Responds creatively to situations, problem-solving; experience with gallery preparation; mechanical ability and hand skills.
Ability to carry out instructions precisely; work well under pressure and meet deadlines; excellent teamwork skills.
Patience and strict attention to detail, consistent, methodical work approach; good time-management skills and ability to work independently.
Strong computer skills required. Proficiency with MS Office, basic Photoshop and image manipulation software; Mac platform preferred and ability and willingness to learn new computer applications.
Excellent interpersonal skills to relate and communicate, both written and oral, to colleagues, and all levels of university community, including tact, professionalism, and courtesy. Interest in modern and contemporary art a plus.
