The Montana Department of Transportation is recruiting for a Constructability Reviewer. The position is responsible for developmental tasks that affects statewide preconstruction/construction operating procedures and the Specification Process. This position acts as or supports the Value Analysis Program Manager, Constructability Review Program Manager, Post Construction Review Program Manager, Prequalification Process Manager, and Feasibility Review Process Manager. Duties influence statewide policies, procedures and operations and include conducting research, compliance evaluation, and highway project administration. The position provides engineering oversight, solution development, implementation, and policy development for construction projects. Duties include researching construction, design, equipment and materials to develop new policies and specifications. Position is responsible for conducting engineering reviews of high-risk plans, specifications and special provisions for proposed and active road construction projects. Using a risked-based approach to identify and manage risks through the project life, the incumbent is involved from the project development phase through construction and project closeout. The position reports to the Constructability/Specifications Review Section Supervisor-Value Analysis Engineer.

Minimum Qualifications:

Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering, Construction Engineering Technology or a closely related field.

This position requires a minimum of 6 years of progressively responsible experience in highway and/or bridges which may include the areas of highway construction, bridge and road construction, specifications, traffic control, project management, materials, design, or laboratory testing, including two years of contract administration.

Certifications, licensure, or other credentials include: Registration as a Professional Engineer in Montana is preferred.

Alternative qualifications include: Any combination of additional related work experience and education equivalent to the minimum qualifications.

  • Highway and bridge construction and/or design. (One-page maximum length, minimum 10 pt font):
    • Duration of position (# of years and # of months), showing “From” and “To” dates for each type of work.
    • Your project responsibility level (i.e., Project Manager, Designer, Civil Engineering Specialist, Lead Technician, or Supervisor).
    • A brief description of duties and responsibilities; and,
    • A brief description of the size/complexity of the projects or work.
  • Value Analysis/value engineering, constructability reviews, post construction reviews, and risk-based management. If you have not been involved in these specific types of activities, describe your specific work experiences you feel qualify you. Your project responsibility level i.e., Project Manager, Designer, Civil Engineering Specialist, Lead Technician, or Supervisor. (One-page maximum length, minimum 10 pt font).
    • The amount of time involved (years and months), showing “From” and “To” date for each Innovative/Alternative contracting project.
    • A brief description of duties and responsibilities.
    • A brief description of the size/complexity of the projects or work.

Education & Training:

  • List and provide documentation of any Training (I.e., MDT training records, course certificates, etc.) that you received or were an instructor for in the past 10 years that you feel may qualify you for this position and documentation of any Formal Education, License, Certificates (I.e. Professional Engineer License, Fundamental of Engineering License, college transcripts, etc.). Documentation must include copies of degrees, certificates, training records, or documentation showing you were the instructor. (One-page maximum length, minimum 10 pt font, not including attachments)
