ReDiscover is a nonprofit community mental health agency that offers a full spectrum of programs and services for people whose lives have been affected by serious mental illness and/or substance use. ReDiscover helps men, women, and children who have limited income, no insurance or who are under-insured.

We started out in Lee's Summit, MO as a group of volunteers in the basement of a local church. We incorporated in 1969. Over the years, the community has known our agency and our unique programs by several different names, including Research Mental Health, North Star, and Common Ground. In 2003, we permanently changed our agency name to ReDiscover.

POSITION OVERVIEW

Under the general direction of the Counselor Technician Supervisor, the Counselor Technician performs job after receiving general instructions for our Women and Children Residential Houses Friendship and Catherine's Place.

The Counselor Technician is responsible for providing structure with the clients and keeping an orderly supplied working space that is free of distractions. The Counselor Tech is responsible for maintaining a chain of custody with all supplies and completing detailed work with very few errors.

SHIFT:

• Monday to Thursday - 3:30pm to 12:00pm
• 32 - Hours a week

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

• High School diploma or GED required.
• Additional experience and course work in the mental health/substance abuse/criminal justice related field is preferred.
• Must have at least one (1) year of experience in working with clients with substance abuse and mental health
• Knowledge and skill to perform treatment with a wide range of clients with maximum autonomy.

SKILLS:

• The Counselor Technician must demonstrate skills in developing positive and productive client relationships and provide appropriate ancillary client care under the direction of the program manager or Team Leader Technician.
• Counselor Technicians must become certified in CPR and First Aid within 3 months of employment.
• Must complete Crisis Prevention/Intervention skill training within 90 days of employment.
• The ability to work with all persons with multiple challenges (mental illness, substance abuse, physical challenges, developmental disabilities, etc.).
• Requires Intermediate computer skills in typing/keyboarding, Microsoft Word and Excel programs as well as Gmail.
• Must obtain a class E license

TOOLS & EQUIPMENT:

• Telephone, copier, and fax machines along with a ten to fifteen passenger van, same-sex urine drug screens and alcohol BACs.
