Under the supervision of the Curator-in-Charge, European Decorative Arts and Sculpture, the Fixed-Term Curatorial Projects Coordinator, European Decorative Arts and Sculpture provides support to the curatorial staff in the day-to-day operation of the European Decorative Arts and Sculpture Department. This position performs administrative tasks generated by the collection, its oversight, installation, conservation, photography, publication, etc.; researching and drafting labels and other interpretive materials; interfacing with the general public; and, depending on experience, participating in temporary exhibition planning, research, and implementation. It also provides administrative support to the European Decorative Art Council.

Typical Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Participates in the day-to-day administrative operations of the department, including in-house actions required for the permanent collection's maintenance and exhibition; correspondence pertaining to incoming and outgoing loans; inquiries from other institutions, the press, and public, following institutional and departmental protocol and procedures.
  • Assists with correspondence with scholars and facilitates research visits by colleagues from the broader museum/academic community. Assists with permanent collection and loan exhibition tours for visitors.
  • Works with the Registration Department to ensure proper documentation of the collection, including acquisitions, deaccessioning, research, and logistics. Working knowledge of The Museum System (TMS) collections management system is ideal.
  • Maintains departmental files.
  • Assists with monitoring activities on the art market, the auction houses, and private dealers.
  • Participates in the preparation of exhibition research, loans and related educational materials.
  • Generates and tracks work / technician / conservation / publications/ photo requests and purchase orders required to engage the assistance of other Museum departments in Asana.
    Preparation of digital presentations, vetting art books to be ordered for Library, and directed research projects.
  • Presenting public tours, depending on the candidate's experience.
  • Performs administrative duties related to specific projects.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications

Education: Bachelor's Degree in art history required and a knowledge of/interest in European Decorative Arts preferred.

Work Experience: At least 3 years of curatorial experience or other relevant museum experience.

  • Good general knowledge of European decorative art and sculpture art, history, and culture.

  • Familiarity with both traditional and contemporary methods of art history research.

  • Strong communication and computer skills, strong customer service orientation.

  • Familiarity with standard museum operations and practices is essential.
  • Fluency with project management databases (such as Asana) and collections management systems (such as TMS) preferred.

Step 1 - Start of the pay range is $25.15 per hour

This is a fixed-term union position with a duration of six (6) months, approximately April - September 2023. This role is eligible for the Museums' benefits package, including medical, dental, and vision insurance plus a generous time off package.
