The Georgia Department of Community Health (DCH) is one of Georgia's four health agencies serving the state's growing population of over 10 million people. DCH serves as the lead agency for Medicaid, oversees the State Health Benefit Plan (SHBP) and Healthcare Facility Regulation, impacting one in four Georgians.

The Georgia Department of Community Health is seeking a Deputy Inspector General. The Deputy Inspector General is responsible for the daily operational activities of the Office of Inspector General. This position will also manage the Office of Audits and will direct the Special Investigations Unit and the Background Investigations Unit. This is a hybrid position that requires in-office and remote work, subject to the supervisor’s discretion.

Job Responsibilities

  • Reports directly to the Inspector General.
  • Responsible for representing the OIG in all Department of Community Health (DCH) when necessary.
  • Serves as liaison between DCH and other interested stakeholders, as needed.
  • Supports each OIG Team with their unique difference to ensure the overall missions/objectives are achieved.
  • Supports the State Health Benefit Plans (SHBP) efforts.
  • Draft and prepare rules and other OIG documents and correspondence as needed.
  • Excellent oral and written communication needed with both internal and external customers.
  • Stay abreast of current issues across the Medicaid/State Health Benefit Plan.
  • Supervise Audit Supervisor and Special Investigations Unit and Background Investigations Managers. Hires, trains, manages, evaluates the performance of, and when necessary, disciplines and discharges direct reports; and
  • Meets regularly with direct reports to receive updates, set expectations and timelines for completion of activities, identifies risks, and develop mitigations plans.

Minimum Qualifications

Bachelor's degree in a related field from an accredited college or university AND Six years of experience managing professional level staff OR Ten years of related professional experience AND Six years managing at the level equivalent to area of assignment OR Six years of experience required at the lower level Sr Mgr 2, Business Ops (GSM013) or position equivalent. Note: An equivalent combination of education and job specific experience that provided the knowledge, experience and competencies required to successfully perform the job at the level listed may be substituted on a year-over-year basis.

Key Skills and Preferred Qualifications:

  • 7 years of experience as a Leader, 2 of those leading Audits or Investigations.
  • Proven ability to perform financial analysis, analyze internal controls and policies, conduct interviews, and write detailed reports.
  • Experience with oversight of government agencies, procurement, and/or contracts.
  • Strong interpersonal, written, and analytical skills.
  • Possess excellent organizational skills and proven ability to manage time efficiently in a fast-paced environment.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office, advanced Excel skills, including V-lookup and pivot tables, and various computer programs.
  • Ability to work well with all levels of staff and management.
  • Demonstrated ethics and sound judgment.

Position may be filled at lower level, depending on experience and qualifications.

Current Georgia state government employees will be subject to SPB rule provisions.
