The Honolulu Star-Advertiser is seeking a full-time online content producer to join our digital team. Online content producers are responsible for creating all forms of content for the Star-Advertiser’s primary website (www.staradvertiser.com), mobile app, and social media accounts.

If you are passionate about the news and making a difference in the community with a desire to bask in year-round sunshine in a competitive local news market, then this role is for you. In the past few years, we have covered important topics such as impacts of the coronavirus pandemic, Thirty Meter Telescope protests atop Mauna Kea, severe weather (hurricanes and Kilauea volcano eruption) and most recently Honolulu’s Little League World Series champions — there is no shortage of news to keep you on your toes. Online content producers help to keep the news flowing on all our digital platforms.

Responsibilities include but are not limited to:

• Writing, editing and posting breaking news stories following in-house and AP style.
• Creating compelling SEO-strong headlines that entice people to click.
• Complementing stories with videos, photos and interactive charts.
• Alerting audience to breaking news stories via mobile, email and desktop alerts.
• Engaging our social media audience through platforms such as Facebook, Twitter and Instagram.
• Covering press conferences via livestream such as Facebook live.

The ideal candidate will be able to work in a fast-paced, deadline-driven environment. Strong news judgment and excellent communication skills are a must as this person collaborates with newsroom editors, reporters, photographers and developers to meet deadlines and deliver high-quality digital content that Hawaii relies on. Shifts might include nights and weekends.

Familiarity with Mac OSX, WordPress, Adobe Photoshop and content management systems is a must. Experience with NewsEngin and Adobe InDesign is a big plus. The position is based in Honolulu, Hawaii.
