Digital Media Manager Job at North Carolina Adult Correction
The Digital Media Manager will work closely with the communications director and the deputy director, and other staff to assist in strategic planning for public relations, branding and publicizing agency programs, advising agency personnel on best methods for promoting activities/program awareness. This position will consult with the Secretary, DAC leadership, managers, subject matter experts, legal counsel and other agency leaders when working on special projects, program development or topics generating public and media interest and continually educate the public and publicize the many services DAC provides and the exceptional work done by the staff.
The position helps develop, maintain, and manage the department’s communications strategy, utilizing earned media and how it corresponds with social media, website content and other resources for outreach to the public and stakeholders. This position will oversee the department’s social media efforts and help grow the audience on the social media platforms such as Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, and YouTube. This position will also manage the department’s websites and SharePoint platforms as well as consult with Communications Office staff about web content.
The position directly manages the digital media specialist, webmaster, and photographer/videographer. The position indirectly supervises other Communications Office staff who support social media efforts; helps train staff; manages performance reviews/grievances for direct supervisees; and provides guidance and direction helping ensure the vision and branding is consistent in all materials used to publicize the department.
The position also assists or manages the logistics of event planning for the section which includes finding venues, coordination/procurement of speakers, coordinates development of talking points and of press releases, invitations, and overall media relations. This position also is involved with strategic short and long-term planning, special projects and helps coordinate and disseminate information to the media during an emergency. The subject position is on-call and disseminates a wide variety of information to the public, government officials and the media. In addition to emergency communications, position also helps manage sensitive, controversial topics, such as but not limited to, riots, escapes, hostage situations and lawsuits.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities / Competencies
- Considerable knowledge and experience in managing messaging routinely and during times of crisis.
- Ability to procure information and provide factual information to the public and the media about the department.
- Thorough knowledge of journalistic principles and techniques for disseminating information to the public through traditional media, social media, and other venues.
- Considerable knowledge of the principles and methods of planning an agency public information program with emphasis on the use of the wide array of social media platforms, the varying techniques, and strategies for posting on social media, as well as familiarity with the use of technology for doing social listening and tracking of posts.
- Ability to write according to correct English usage and accepted standards for journalism in print, online and broadcast to include Associated Press (AP) style.
- Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with department managers, representatives of the media and general public.
- Considerable knowledge of desktop publishing and understanding of the evolving social media.
Minimum Education and Experience Requirements
Bachelor s degree in Public Relations, Communications, Public Affairs, Media, Journalism, English or related field from an accredited institution and five years of experience in communications, public relations, or publicity work; or an equivalent combination of education and experience.

Pay: $61,209.00 - $107,116.00 per year
