The Director, Corporate Development & Strategy will report to the SVP, Corporate Development and Strategy and will focus on delivering power generation and energy storage projects that support the Company’s goals. The role includes leadership of the corporation’s power development strategy across various technologies. This position is directly responsible for the origination, structuring, management oversight of our power asset developments with third parties as applicable.

The ideal candidate should be a proven leader and a strong advocate for the partnering process with key stakeholders (internal and external). This individual is responsible for both the leadership needs of their own team along with building an effective relationship with key individuals in resource planning, regulatory, financial, and governance oversight processes. Candidate should have a competitive mind-set and the ability to create winning partnerships across a wide range of stakeholders in a dynamic and fast paced market-facing environment.

RESPONSIBILITIES AND ESSENTIAL DUTIES

  • Builds a powerful power development team that is totally focused on delivering efficient power generation and storage projects that enable the enterprise to meet the stated goals.
  • Leads the build out of external partnership structures to execute power development
  • Demonstrates and leads with hands-on, industry, experience
  • Dissects the economics of power development across the value chain, what can be executed at what price, and what development options create the greatest value for the enterprise and its customers
  • Works with market-participants and internal resources to originate, structure, design, advance, and execute market-competitive development projects of various sizes
  • Scopes, identifies, and recruits for critical team positions and key, internal and external, stakeholders
  • Identifies and executes opportunities to educate the business on power strategies, keeps key stakeholders apprised of roadmaps, development timeline, and workstreams, and seeks necessary approvals, where applicable, to carry out GHGs reduction plan through sustainable asset development
  • Develops a pipeline of projects across a number of potential sources and partnership structures which are innovative and cost competitive
  • Supports joint venture management requirements and external partner relationships
  • Develops critical relationships with key stakeholders (internal and external) that allows the team to work systematically and integrate projects with the enterprise
  • Full understanding of the contractual aspects, economics, and risks of projects. Creates a contracting strategy that delivers superior economic performance and that can be executed safely, with high quality, while delivering cost and schedule certainty
  • Quickly and efficiently works to negotiate and resolve contract challenges
  • Works closely with the regulatory functions to support the requirement of receiving the necessary certifications

KNOWLEDGE AND SKILLS:

Knowledge:

Ideal candidate will have extensive knowledge and experience in the energy industry and power development strategies for the oil and gas industry. Candidate will be k nowledgeable on tactics related to strategies to assess, build, and manage power development opportunities; broad and in-depth knowledge on market fundamentals, structuring and leading transactions.

Proficient knowledge of the following: forecasting, analyzing information, researching, statistical analysis, negotiating, legal documentation, financial planning and strategy, deals with uncertainty, and legal compliance.

Skills:

  • Strong quantitative reasoning skills, including three statement financial modeling
  • Experience analyzing or operating within the LNG and energy industry
  • Highly organized and motivated with strong analytical and critical thinking abilities and the ability to work without close supervision. Individual shall demonstrate good judgment, high integrity and sound decision-making skills
  • Excellent communication and presentation skills, both written and verbal; Must be able to articulate and understand complex issues. Ability to effectively communicate with different areas/levels within the organization
  • Must have advanced computer skills in Excel and PowerPoint along with the ability to learn new applications
  • Must be able to work under deadline pressure with competing priorities, and must be willing to work outside of normal office hours as required
  • Proven analysis, negotiation, and management skills to manage a significant number of internal and external stakeholders
  • Ability to:
      • Plan and manage at both strategic and operational levels.
      • Develop valued relationships with senior-level management, based upon broad knowledge of business principles and insights
      • Manage challenging situations and recommend effective solutions to problems
      • Interpret complexity in market rules, regulations, and contracts

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE

Education, Training and Certifications : A Bachelor’s Degree in related field required; Degree in a technical discipline such as math, statistics, economics, finance or a related field is preferred.

Experience :

10 years relevant capital project development experience in the LNG and/or broader Energy sector, and/or 7 years of investment banking experience. Management experience also required.

Experience in competitive project development of renewables and combined-cycle gas turbine (CCGT) power plants, ideally as a joint venture, are required. Power generation project development experience required.
