Description
  • Support the Dallas ISD early learning goals of ensuring every child is ready for kindergarten and every 2nd grader is reading on grade level. Lead the district’s Home Instruction for Parents of Preschool Youngsters (HIPPY) program, which is the largest HIPPY program operating in the world. HIPPY has operated in Dallas ISD for 30 years and has a track record of success. The Director will develop strategic shifts in the program to meet current demands, focus on improved program quality and serving more families. The Director will also engage in other community-based partnerships serving children birth to five, working to ensure every child is ready for Kindergarten.
  • Lead and direct the district’s HIPPY program, serving more than 1,000 families each year, partnering with over 60 elementary schools, and supervising a staff of more than 60.
  • Develop and implement new strategies for recruiting and serving more families, particularly African American families.
  • Develop and implement new strategies for recruiting and retaining high-quality home instructors, including developing and launching a “growth-your-own” program.
  • Develop continuous improvement systems for onboarding and supporting home instructors that leads to greater impact for children and families.
  • Oversee program implementation, including curriculum procurement and development and training of home instructors to redeliver curriculum to families.
  • Build collaborative partnerships with principals and community leaders to support the growth and advancement of HIPPY.
  • Develop and implement effective parental involvement programs that support the implementation of HIPPY throughout the community as well as other non-HIPPY programs.
  • Oversee the implementation of a system-wide assessment and diagnostic system.
  • Develop and manage the HIPPY budget, which includes district funds, federal funds, and outside grants, working to secure additional resources.
  • Support the Assistant Superintendent with all board-related items, including procurement, goal updates, and enrollment for HIPPY.
  • Serve as a community liaison and advocate for early childhood education.
  • Partner with other Early Learning and district leaders to host and support community events and enrollment efforts.
  • Assist families and staff with the transitions from home and/or child care to school.
  • Keep abreast of best practices and developing trends in early childhood education and disseminate information accordingly.
  • Maintain HIPPY accreditation and increase Dallas’s influence through conference presentations, lectures, best-practice dissemination, etc.
Qualifications

  • Required Master’s Degree from an accredited university in a related field.
  • Required ten years of related experience.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of early childhood program and best practices.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of and experience in working with children from various demographic areas diverse ethnicities.
  • Demonstrated ability to write curriculum.
  • Demonstrated ability to function effectively with all levels of management throughout the district.
