CHAI: Comprehensive Housing Assistance, Inc. is a nonprofit housing and community development organization serving northwest Baltimore. CHAI: Comprehensive Housing Assistance, Inc. has an immediate opening for a Director of Community and School Engagement for NW Baltimore which supports CHAI’s community development mission and goals through community building, neighborhood engagement and outreach. The Director also collaborates with and supports the schools in CHAI’s General Service Area (GSA)*, and engages teachers, school administrators, students and families in their school and community. *CHAI’s GSA includes Glen, Fallstaff, Cheswolde, Mt. Washington and Cross Country.

In this role, you will

Build Community Engagement By
  • Working with neighborhood associations and neighborhood groups to identify needs of residents and plan and organize efforts to meet those needs
  • Educating homeowners on CHAI’s services, Healthy Neighborhoods, and city resources
  • Staying up to date on issues relevant to CHAI’s GSA as well as the status of neighborhood assets
  • Supporting unique assets, programming, and community building in the Fallstaff neighborhood
  • Managing CHAI’s Façade Improvement Program
  • Monitoring housing in the neighborhoods in CHAI’s GSA
  • Supporting and promoting ongoing community and block level projects that create concrete neighborhood improvements
  • Supporting cooperative projects between CHAI and other community agencies
  • Attending community meetings to build relationships with community members
  • Exploring and designing community leadership opportunities for community members
  • Staffing committees on behalf of CHAI as needed
  • Engaging in the work of the Northwest Baltimore Partnership in Park Heights and supporting partnership efforts
Build School Engagement By
  • Working collaboratively in support of schools with aim toward helping each school to secure resources needed to thrive
  • Supporting parent and community engagement within schools, including the Parent Teacher Organizations (PTOs) to build their membership and leadership
  • Connecting schools with programs, partners, and resources to meet needs identified by school principals
  • Building connections between schools and communities in CHAI’s GSA
Applicants will have
  • At least 3 years’ experience in community engagement or organizing and working in diverse communities
  • Bachelor’s Degree in Social Work or related fields
  • Ability to work varying hours, including evenings and weekends to attend meetings, events, hearings, and trainings
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office software applications
  • Valid driver’s license and reliable transportation

Compensation and Benefits

Salary Range: $65,000-$70,000 annually, salary commensurate with experience.

Full Time Exempt position
