Summary of Job Duties:
The Dale Bumpers College of Agricultural, Food and Life Sciences at the University of Arkansas is excited to receive applications for the position of Director of Development (DOD) and External Relations. It is a very exciting time at the university – largest freshman enrollment in history, Dr. Charles F. Robinson has been named our seventh chancellor, we just celebrated our sesquicentennial and successfully completed a $1B campaign in 2020.

The Director of Development & External Relations position requires an individual with previous major gift and leadership experience to set strategic initiatives and manage a large donor base, comprised of alumni, friends, and corporations. The DOD will lead a comprehensive fundraising program, (which includes major and testamentary gifts as well as annual gifts), the external relations team, alumni engagement activities, and stewardship efforts. This position will routinely evaluate progress, programs, opportunities and staff for continual improvement in an effort to meet identified goals.
The Director of Development will travel frequently to engage our donors, cultivate them, solicit gifts to support the college, and maintain necessary stewardship activities. Each development team member has a healthy portfolio and ample opportunity to discover and build the future pipeline of donors. The DOD reports directly to the Bumpers College Dean and the Executive Director for Development.

Regular, reliable, and non-disruptive attendance is an essential job duty, as is the ability to create and maintain collegial, harmonious working relationships with others.

Qualifications:
Minimum Qualifications:
  • Bachelor’s degree from an accredited university
  • Minimum of three years full-time, professional experience in major gift fundraising
  • Minimum of three years' experience managing volunteer and advisory boards
  • Minimum three years of supervisory experience
  • Willingness to travel on behalf of the university and work irregular hours as needed
Preferred Qualifications:
  • Previous, successful experience in a major giving campaign, preferably in higher education
  • Demonstrated success in securing six and seven figure gifts, preferably in higher education
  • Familiarity with a university campus, working with campus leadership such as a dean
  • Demonstrated experience in supporting, evaluating and, developing highly productive staff and teams

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:
  • Exceptional interpersonal skills and the ability to interact effectively with academic leadership, faculty, prospects, donors, and volunteers in a wide range of roles and within a diverse community
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills
  • Proficient skills in Microsoft Office Suite and some form of development CRM (Advance, AfinnaQuest, etc.)
  • Demonstrated effectiveness in prospect identification, relationship building, and solicitation
  • Ability to establish program goals and objectives that support the strategic plan
  • Ability to plan, assign, and/or supervise the work of others
