Director of Israel Education & Engagement at Columbia/Barnard Hillel Job at Hillel International

Hillel International New York, NY

Director of Israel Education & Engagement or Israel Education & Engagement Manager

Columbia/Barnard Hillel

Role Overview

Columbia/Barnard Hillel is seeking an engaging and authentic Hillel professional to lead our efforts around engagement and education through an Israel lens. An ideal candidate has the ability to build relationships with a diverse array of students, loves deep conversations filled with nuance and hearing different perspectives, and knows how to support and empower student leaders. With a campus community with varying exposure to Israel, this role will range from working with our Israel group student leaders to ensure a high level of programmatic engagement to engaging students who have never been to Israel in meaningful conversations, and everything in between.

Depending on level of experience and education, we are open to hiring either a Director of Israel Education & Engagement or an Israel Education & Engagement Manager.

The Director of Israel Education & Engagement/Israel Education & Engagement Manager is a core member of the Student Life team and will be supervised by the Associate Director. Start date is flexible.

What You'll Do

Engagement:

You are first and foremost an engager, like all members of the Columbia/Barnard Hillel professional team. You understand that being out on campus, staffing Shabbat dinners, and celebrating holidays with our community will enhance your engagement work by helping you meet new students. You'll meet students for lunch and coffee to get to know them and hear what's going on in their lives, with a particular focus on Israel conversations.

Student Empowerment:

You will serve as the advisor for Hillel's many and diverse Israel groups, which span the spectrum of political, cultural, and societal aspects of Israel education and advocacy. As an advisor you will support student leaders to plan programs and opportunities that expose high level ideas and people to the wider student community, and you will help equip student leaders facing difficult moments on campus related to Israel.

Education:

Whether through your own background and set of experiences or by tapping into the network of Israel educators and leaders, you will plan and execute educational opportunities for students from all levels of knowledge to help them delve deeper into their own relationship with Israel. This could look like an Israel 101 fellowship, an immersive trip to Israel for non-Jewish student leaders, a series of speakers for Israeli students, and more.

What You'll Bring to the Job

  • Director: 6+ years of relevant work experience, including work on a college campus/with young adults, work related to Israel engagement/education, and/or work with diverse Jewish communities, MA preferred
  • Manager: 3+ years of relevant work experience, including work on a college campus/with young adults, work related to Israel engagement/education, and/or work with diverse Jewish communities
  • A commitment to creating an inclusive, vibrant and pluralistic Jewish community
  • Knowledge about Israel and a desire to continue to learn
  • A willingness to listen to and engage with students from varying backgrounds and walks of life
  • The ability to empower, challenge, and support student leaders

What You'll Receive

  • Competitive salary in the non-profit marketplace. The salary range for the manager role role is $60,000-$75,000 and the salary range for the director role is $80,000-100,000, commensurate with experience.
  • A comprehensive benefits package, including health insurance, Group Supplemental Retirement Annuity (GSRA), pension plan, life insurance, Long Term Disability (LTD), Flexible Spending Plan, generous vacation/sick time, and parental leave
  • Great professional development, mentoring, and skill building opportunities
  • Travel regionally and abroad, particularly to Israel
  • Dedicated and fun colleagues who will support you along the way
