About this position

Effective deployment of North Memorial Ambulance resources that maximizes response times while efficiently utilizing a minimum number of units. The EMD triages transportation requests, strategically positions resources, recommends effective routes while correctly interpreting computer aided dispatch recommendations. The EMD will also be required to triage incoming calls and provide pre-arrival instructions to callers when appropriate.


What we’ll expect from you

  • Deploys North Memorial Ambulance Resources in an effective and efficient manner using 800 Radio communication systems, CAD (Computer Aided Dispatch) systems, and other appropriate resources.
  • Deploys vehicles efficiently in accordance with the systems status plan.
  • Triages transportation requests to insure the transportation unit is staffed to deliver the appropriate level of care required by the customer and is consistent with state and local laws.
  • Works collaboratively with the department and other public service agencies to determine the need for additional resources, i.e. ambulances, first responders, specialized rescue equipment/teams.
  • Monitors and accurately documents the status of all vehicles.
  • Communicates radio information concisely while complying with FCC requirements.
  • Receives and documents incoming information and relays it to designated recipients.
  • Accepts other duties as assigned to promote the accomplishment of organizational goals.

Education

  • High school graduate or equivalent (GED)
  • Medical terminology course work or equivalent preferred

Experience, Knowledge, Skills, Abilities

  • 1 year experience as a Dispatcher/ EMD in an EMS, Air Medical, Police, Fire or Security Communications Center
OR
  • Completion of a 911 Communications Certificate Program (minimum 120 hours)
OR
  • 2 years working as an EMT or Paramedic in an EMS environment
OR
  • 2 years of experience working in a medical setting with emphasis on incoming multi-line phones, triaging of calls and appointment scheduling
OR
• 3+ years of experience working customer service with an emphasis on multi-line phones in a call center environment • Requires the ability to multi-task, problem solve, make effective decisions under pressure, work independently and in a team atmosphere.
  • Requires the ability to work effectively with other hospitals' staff, public service agencies, peers, co-workers and the general public.

Licensure/Certification(s) Mandatory

Current certification as an EMD through Medical Priority Dispatch or be able to meet this requirement within 6 months of the date of hire (BLS Certification is incorporated into the EMD Certification) - NMHC Standard
