DSHS Residential Rehabilitation Counselor 2
The Behavioral Health Administration (BHA) is seeking multiple full-time and on-call Residential Rehabilitation Counselors to work at Maple Lane Competency Restoration Center located in Grand Mound, Washington just north of Centralia. We need your motivation and ability to demonstrate patience as you maintain a therapeutic and safe environment, and contribute as a member of a team responsible for implementing residential treatment strategies. You will work in a residential unit as a member of a multi-disciplinary team, which is responsible for implementing a therapeutic environment through effective management of treatment strategies, proactive interventions, and monitoring of patient behaviors. You will have the opportunity to contribute to the rehabilitation of people diagnosed with behavioral health conditions who are committed by the courts to DSHS care for competency restoration services.
Some of what you'll do:
- Instruct and encourage residents regarding policies, procedures, protocols, and living unit rules
- Encourage patients to participate in approved extra-curricular activities and work towards treatment goals
- Assist with problem-solving and counsel residents informally, individually, and in small groups
- Use appropriate and clear verbal direction and interventions with residents
- Conduct searches of areas, rooms, and persons when needed
- Utilize appropriate de-escalation techniques when needed in response to patients with escalating problematic behavior
- Prepare and perform all resident transports to ensure public, resident, and staff safety
- Provide direct day-to-day monitoring of the Maple Lane residential population
- Serve meals and snacks to patients
- Complete daily perimeter checks of the building and surrounding areas
- Respond to fire, assaultive behavior, and other emergency conditions immediately
- Write detailed documentation to include daily charting on residents, incident reports, log entries, resident census updates, behavior management reports, shift reports, and other documents
- Complete inventory and assist with ordering and distributing assisted daily living supplies to patients
Professionals with one of the following:
- High school graduation or GED and two years of experience providing direct care to psychiatric patients, residents, or inmates in a residential or in-patient mental health setting
- Or, satisfactory completion of the Residential Rehabilitation Counselor 1 in-training plan
- Equivalent education*/experience will also be considered
- College-level coursework will substitute for the required experience on a year-for-year basis.
People hired will need to obtain agency affiliated counselor license from DOH within 30 days of hire.
