The EDUCATIONAL TECHNOLOGY SPECIALIST will be the primarily team member responsible for creating E-learning and is an expert developer of educational solutions using current technology that facilitates learning and improves performance, including web-based training (WBT), web sites (including blog and wikis), web conferencing (including online meetings, webinars, and online workshops), online survey tools, mobile devices, digital cameras, and interactive whiteboards.

This position also serves as team expert on the learning management system, report writing, database development, software that supports collaboration and file sharing, and other tools in support of training administration and educator productivity.

The Educational Technology Specialist brings to the job, and continually works to expand, the following body of knowledge:

  • Healthcare industry, including ambulatory, inpatient, and emergency services

  • Organizational structure of UW Medicine and its affiliated organizations (UWP, UWPN, NW Hospital, and SCCA)

  • Adult education theory and the latest educational technologies

  • Demonstrates developer-level competency with a wide spectrum of current educational technologies to design and develop interactive educational programs.

  • Functions as the internal consultant to customer departments, developing and maintaining collaborative working relationships with managers and supervisors of all customer departments.

  • Collaborates with other Epic system educators and analysts across the enterprise. May train other Epic educators to use new educational technologies.

  • Develops and tests materials designed by self and other educators using appropriate technologies. Configures technological tools for team use and trains educators on their use.

  • Designs educational solutions using appropriate technologies per specifications of educators and customers. Maintains department website, SharePoint, and existing electronic learning materials per system and workflow changes.

  • Evaluates software products used for instruction, assessment, training administration and trainer productivity and makes recommendations for purchase.

  • Serves as expert user of the learning management system, sets up classes in the system, prepares report requests and serves as liaison with the Enterprise LMS team.

  • Uses project management skill to plan and track assignments and development activities. Stays current with trends and products in educational technology and keeps revenue cycle educators informed.

  • Manages training development projects through the instructional design process including instructional analysis, design, development, implementation and evaluation.



  • REQUIRED:
  • Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science, Education, Instructional Design, Technical Writing or related field

  • 4 Year's recent experience Educational Technology, Adult Educator, or Instructional Design


  • DESIRED:
  • Master’s degree in Education, Instructional Design, Healthcare, Business Administration or completion of a certificate program in Adult Education and training, Educational Technology, or related area is preferred.

  • Experience using or training one or more Epic revenue cycle applications.

  • Recent experience designing and developing eLearning course using tools such as Adobe Captivate, Articulate, Storyline, and Audacity.

  • Expert user of MS Office; MS Project; Adobe Acrobat Pro; Articulate Studio; Snagit, Illustrator, Photoshop, Fireworks, or similar graphics software; SumTotal or similar learning management system; Webinar software such as WebEx, Go-to-meeting, Adobe Connect Pro; and MS SharePoint.

  • Experience developing web sites using tools such as Adobe Dreamweaver or other HTML authoring tools.
