Responsibilities:
Experimental Operations is looking for an entry-level Electro-Mechanical Technician to support Mechanical Technologies, Fibers, Feedthroughs, and Vessels work in North Las Vegas and at the Nevada National Security Site (NNSS). Candidates with technical aptitude and interest in supporting fabrication, assembly, inspection, testing, analytical instrumentation, fielding of experimental diagnostics, ancillary systems and hardware for supporting experiments are encouraged to apply.


Key Responsibilities

  • Perform routine work and basic technical skills with specific direction and oversight.
  • Able to work in a team environment while learning about projects.
  • Able to learn to read blueprints, schematics, and diagrams and apply the method and sequence of assembling of a part, machine, or piece of equipment.
  • Support assembly, installation, operations, testing and troubleshooting activities of hardware, electronic equipment, cabling installations, compressed air and pressurized systems, vacuum pumps, controls hardware, and data acquisition equipment.
  • Learn, understand and follow directions from team Subject Matter Experts.
  • Inspect parts for surface defects.
  • Align, fit, or assemble component parts, using hand or power tools, fixtures, templates, or microscopes.
  • Assist and perform walk-downs and sweeps with oversight.
  • Support the development, validation and updating of installation, operations and testing procedures, protocols and checklists.
  • Perform other duties assigned by Managment.
Qualifications:
  • High School diploma or equivalent. Some vocational training preferred.
  • Prefer two years of progressive experience, demonstrated experience in an electro-mechanical environment.
  • Familiarity or demonstrated aptitude with basic non-powered, and powered hand tools.
  • Successful at working in team based environments (working together with others).
  • Familiarity or demonstrated aptitude with electronics (e.g., level probes, flow meters, gauges and digital indicators).
  • Able to prepare written documentation.
  • Able to balance work activities and travel.
  • Able to work successfully within a team environment and exhibit collaborative behavior.
  • Able to manage working at multiple sites - the Losee Road facility in North Las Vegas, Nevada, the Nevada National Security Site (located 65 miles northwest of Las Vegas, Nevada), underground environment, and as needed.
  • Work schedule for this position will be 4/10’s, Monday – Thursday (subject to change).
  • Pre-placement physical examination, which includes a drug screen, is required. MSTS maintains a substance abuse policy that includes random drug testing.
  • Must possess a valid driver's license.
MSTS is required by DOE directive to conduct a pre-employment drug test and background review that includes checks of personal references, credit, law enforcement records, and employment/education verifications. Applicants offered employment with MSTS are also subject to a federal background investigation to meet the requirements for access to classified information or matter if the duties of the position require a DOE security clearance. Substance abuse or illegal drug use, falsification of information, criminal activity, serious misconduct or other indicators of untrustworthiness can cause a clearance to be denied or terminated by DOE, resulting in the inability to perform the duties assigned and subsequent termination of employment. In addition, Applicants for employment must be able to obtain and maintain a DOE Q-level security clearance, which requires U.S. citizenship, at least 18 years of age. Reference DOE Order 472.2, “Personnel Security”. If you hold more than one citizenship (i.e., of the U.S. and another country), your ability to obtain a security clearance may be impacted.

(position will be cleared to this level). Reviews and tests for the absence of any illegal drug as defined in 10 CFR Part 707.4, “Workplace Substance Abuse Programs at DOE Sites,” will be conducted. Applicant selected will be subject to a Federal background investigation, required to participate in subsequent reinvestigations, and must meet the eligibility requirements for access to classified matter. Successful completion of a counterintelligence evaluation, which may include a counterintelligence-scope polygraph examination, may also be required. Reference 10 CFR Part 709, “Counterintelligence Evaluation Program.”

Annual salary range for this position is: $20.78/hr - $31.17/hr.

Starting salary is determined based on the position market value, the individual candidate education and experience and internal equity.
