Summary/Objective:

The part time Math Support Teacher’s goal is to facilitate individual and small group learning sessions for struggling math students in the K-5th after-school program, focusing on helping students improve and meet grade level math standards. Under the leadership and guidance of the Director of School-Aged Programs and the Elementary Program Manager, the Math Support Teacher will be responsible for implementing the My Math Academy online curriculum for small groups of students in grades K-2nd and providing targeted math tutoring supports for students in grades 3rd-5th. (M-Th, 2:30-6:00 p.m., approx. 14 hours/week). School year, August through May.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

Planning

· Ensure that all K-2nd students are enrolled in the My Math Academy program

· Ensure that students are assigned to the appropriate learning path in the My Math Academy program

· Create math lessons for small groups of students

· Identify and utilize curricular resources for instructing small groups of students

Implementing

· Follow a pre-set schedule to meet with individuals and/or small groups to provide math interventions for identified students.

· Maximize program time to meet the needs of the identified case load

· Collaborate with lead classroom teachers to provide a structured and effective learning environment.

· Set up/Clean up room and supplies before and after program

· Build rapport with students and staff to build a love of math and problem solving

Qualifications:

Education/Experience:

· Must have a high school diploma or GED equivalent

· At least 1 year of experience in youth development, childcare, or related field

· Must obtain a Florida DCF certificate within 1 year of employment

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

· Demonstrated understanding of the K-5 Florida math standards

· Demonstrated ability to support K-5th grade students in mathematics

· Demonstrated experience working with diverse cultures and populations

· Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite, use of the internet, and basic computer and tablet skills sufficient to operate the My Math Academy online program

· Collaborative spirit to work with classroom teachers

· Strong communication skills- both written and verbal

· Commitment to the mission and core values of Grace Place.

· Current first aid and CPR certificates (can be obtained within 90 days of employment).

· Able to pass background checks and FDLE fingerprinting.

Work Environment: Position requires working in numerous locations which include varied temperature, noise level, and other factors that may affect a person’s working conditions while performing the job.

Position Type and Expected Working Hours: Part-time (part time is defined as someone who is working less than 30 hours week). Anticipated working hours for the school year are approximately 2:30 PM-6:00 PM Monday-Thursday (approx. 14 hours/week).

Physical Demands: Bending, sitting, and standing for long periods of time. May require lifting objects weighing up to 20 lbs. as needed.

Additional Eligibility Qualifications: Background check, fingerprinting required, and DCF training required after first 90 days.
