Job Title: Empowerment Advocate

Reports To: Empowerment Team Lead

FSLA Status: Exempt

Summary:

Responsible for providing domestic abuse services to residents of Winnebago County and Green Lake County. Provide individual options advocacy, support groups and advocate for victims/families with other service providers. Network with other community agencies to provide appropriate services for victims of domestic violence and their families.

This position requires candidates to work under pressure and have the ability to calmly handle rapidly evolving crisis situations with flexibility, sensitivity and reason.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Provide client advocacy including but not limited to:
  • Provide 1:1 advocacy to clients for all CADASI locations based on client needs
  • Assist clients with restraining order paperwork and the restraining order process
  • Meet with clients regarding court ordered no contacts
  • Assess client’s needs and recommend other CADASI programs and services as well as refer to other outside services as appropriate
  • Court accompaniment as needed
  • Develop and facilitate curriculum for advocacy support groups as needed.
  • Collaborate with community agencies and attend committee meetings.
  • Coordinate with all staff as necessary to provide appropriate services.
  • Provide input and appropriate statistics for grant funding requests and reporting.
  • Provide shelter coverage and advocacy back up, as needed, and services to clients at the shelter in Oshkosh, including but not limited to: Assisting walk-ins, answering crisis line calls and safety planning.
  • Attend and participate in team and agency meetings.
  • Provide PTO and walk in coverage for the Empowerment team and satellite locations.
  • Coordinate the Transitional Housing program (PATH) and participate in staffing meetings with Advocap. Provide support to clients within the PATH program and be the primary advocate.
  • Provide on call support to the crisis team during assigned on call weeks.

Supervisory Responsibilities:

  • This job requires no supervision of staff.

Education / Experience

  • Bachelor’s Degree in human service, education or related field or equivalent experience preferred.
  • Strong background working in domestic abuse issues.
  • Basic knowledge of systems that impact survivors’ choices and the safety of families experiencing domestic violence.
  • Experience working with children, teens, or adults.
  • Experience facilitating groups preferred.
  • Experience in working with diverse populations.

Certificates, Licenses, Registrations

  • Valid driver's license, car and adequate insurance required

Skills and Abilities

  • Ability to maintain records and confidentiality.
  • Ability to speak, read and write English and communicate clearly.
  • Ability to take initiative and work independently and creatively problem-solve.
  • Possess exceptional interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to work in high crisis situations appropriately.

  • Independently enter and move within buildings.
  • Lift and move supplies and donations-approximately 25 pounds.
  • Hold a valid driver's license, have access to a reliable vehicle and adequate insurance is required.
  • Some travel will be required

Job Type: Full-time

Pay: From $38,000.00 per year
