About the program:

WRI’s Forests Program aims to conserve and restore forests for benefits as diverse as cultural identity, biodiversity, carbon capture, water security and wood supply. We work with civil society, governments and the private sector to ensure forested landscapes are governed fairly and managed sustainably. We support radical transparency and open access to the latest data and cutting-edge monitoring technology, so that all actors can be held accountable for actions that impact forests. We partner with governments, entrepreneurs, investors and forests experts to build the social and financial conditions for conserving forests and restoring degraded ecosystems. And we produce groundbreaking research to shed light on important forest issues and aid in better decision-making.

Job Highlight:

In this role, you will sit within the Forest Program’s cross-cutting work on responsible supply chains. You will contribute to the execution of multi-stakeholder processes and projects aimed at realizing sustainable agriculture, working with all commodity sectors but with an emphasis on soy and cattle production in Latin America. You will also support relevant policies and research.

You will be supported by supply chain engagement experts, as well as research, product and other core teams within the Forests Program.

You will report to the Senior Manager of Supply Chains Strategy.

Depending upon location (US or Brazil), this position will be a hybrid model of remote and in-office or fully remote.

What you will do:

Engagement and project management (80%)

• Support the Forest Data Partnership, a project comprised of USAID, FAO, Google, NASA, SERVIR, Unilever and lead by WRI, which aims to strengthen the monitoring of commodity-driven deforestation and restoration in Latin America, as well as West Africa and Southeast Asia.
• Execute projects aimed at realizing sustainable agriculture, including an initial project with the World Cocoa Foundation and several cocoa and chocolate companies to improve cocoa-driven deforestation monitoring and drive collective action in priority landscapes across West Africa.
• Liaise with relevant parts of the Forests Program, including the GFW Pro team, to help translate the outcomes of multi-stakeholder processes and projects into scalable monitoring solutions.

Policy and research (20%)

• Serve as one of WRI’s soy and cattle subject matter experts internally and externally.
• Provide input into corporate sustainability policies, government regulations, and other policies in support of sustainable and transparent soy and cattle production.
• Provide input into research and knowledge products which shed light on the challenges and opportunities associated with soy and cattle production.
• Liaise with relevant parts of the Forests Program, including the GFW Pro team, to keep them informed of policies and research which could present opportunities or challenges to their objectives.

What you will need:

• Education: You have a Master’s Degree in agricultural sciences, environmental sciences, environmental management or another relevant field (or a Bachelor’s degree with two years of additional relevant work experience)
• Experience: You have a minimum 6-8 years of relevant work experience

• Knowledge of cattle and soy sector actors, policies, challenges and opportunities
• Experience leading or contributing to multi-stakeholder collaborations and processes
• Demonstrated engagement and partner management skills
• Understanding of GIS and monitoring, including the ability to effectively communicate around these topics with diverse audiences
• Past experience with project management
• Previous work knowledge or experience in the cocoa sector
• Languages: Verbal and written proficiency in English, and working proficiency in Spanish and/or Portuguese
• Requirements: Existing work authorization is required where this position is based. WRI is unable to authorize visa work authorization.

Potential Salary

$84,000-$95,000 if based in the US. Salary is commensurate with experience and other compensable factors. WRI offers a competitive remuneration and benefits package.
