About this opportunity
We are looking for a highly organized, detail-oriented individual to fill our Engineering Project Manager role. This role supports our flexible packaging operations to capitalize on improvements of current assets and opportunities for growth with new investments. This person guides and performs activities to related to project work throughout all areas of the plant, collaborating with affected team members. This position will be responsible to plan, organize and manage various project in all areas from start to successful completion including contract proposals and budget. This position will report to the Maintenance Manager.

What you will do

  • Enforce all plant policies and procedures, including safety and food safety rules and take immediate action on upset conditions.
  • Enforce utilization of safety mechanisms and proper maintenance for good working order of safety devices.
  • Conduct Management of Change and safety design reviews on all proposed projects, installed equipment, relocated equipment, and building modifications.
  • Maintain compliance with applicable regulations and promote leading safety awareness

Engineering Design Review

  • Actively participate on cross-functional teams for development of new products, manufacturing capabilities, or resolving production issues.
  • Facilitate the troubleshooting of mechanical systems
  • Research automation technologies and help design efficient manufacturing workflows
  • Assemble teams for engineering and capital projects
  • Lead project meetings, setting schedules and agendas and engaging participants to actively contribute
  • Distribute project status update reports to keep stakeholders informed of progress, challenges, and key changes
  • Evaluate and advise on suitable hardware and software for engineering needs
  • Develop a system to track and follow-up on any open items or action steps.

Capital Project Management

  • Serve as Project Manager for major capital projects
  • Gather estimated pricing and lead times for all components of a project
  • Submit capital expenditure approval requests in alignment of plant and company objectives
  • Ensure project tracking documents are created and updated, including Charters, Gantt Charts, Project Plans, Budgets, providing status updates on a consistent and timely basis.
  • Collaborate with equipment vendors on customized solutions and enhancements when standard offerings do not accomplish project objectives.
  • Plan and facilitate trials or operational tests on new equipment
  • Manage the start-up of new equipment to ensure quality performance before handing over to operations
  • Manage contractor activities, setting clear expectations to ensure timely and quality completion of projects.
  • Enforce all plant policies and procedures with contractors included in scope of managed projects
  • Champion company stewardship by assessing and prioritizing project options with an acceptable ROI.

Plant Maintenance Support

  • Collaborate with the Maintenance Manager on the selection of necessary contractors
  • Assess equipment for obsolescence risks or potentially inefficient mechanical design
  • Assist in the training of Maintenance apprentices and guide team on engineering concepts

What you have to offer

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Mechanical Engineering or other related field
  • Minimum of 4 years of relevant work experience
  • Experience with extrusion lamination or coating
  • Computer skills to utilize various programs (i.e. Microsoft Office, AutoCad) including basic statistics knowledge
  • Analytical and critical thinking skills with an aptitude to quickly absorb new procedures and industry advancements
  • Demonstrated history of complex decision making and working with others to problem solve
  • Not easily overwhelmed by details
  • A desire for results and demonstrated proactive mindset
  • Demonstrated organizational skills with an ability to prioritize projects, combined with the ability to provide and receive direction
  • Ability to function effectively in a fast paced, dynamic environment, completing assignments in a timely manner
  • Excellent interpersonal skills and the ability to exemplify professional behavior in all aspects of the position
  • Satisfactory score on the Wonderlic Personnel Test
  • Flexibility to work overtime and change hours to support a 24/7 manufacturing operation
