Equipment Operator/Blade Operator

Davison County is seeking a full-time Equipment Operator/Blade Operator. The Equipment Operator/Blade Operator will maintain Davison County Highway System by removing snow and repairing roads (gravel and pavement) and bridges to ensure safety and comfort of the traveling public. Operates a variety of equipment and performs all types of related construction and maintenance work as necessary.

• Competitive wage $20.52-$22/hour based on qualifications!

What you do!

• Operation of light, medium and heavy equipment including front-end loaders, trucks, graders and other vehicles used in the construction/maintenance of county roads, clearing of snow, or distribution of sand-chemical mixtures to ice/snow covered roads
• Maintains equipment by performing critical service work
• Patches potholes and edge failures in the roadway surface
• Operates tractor/trailer and tandem trucks, front end loader, patrol and rollers for patching gravel surfaces and reconditioning gravel roadways to a smooth and level driving surface. Safety considerations are very critical
• Operates heavy snowplows, sanders, front loaders, bulldozer, reversible v-plows, one-way snowplows, and patrol with wing to plow snow, remove snow and ice, apply sand-chemical mixtures to ice and snow-covered roadways.
• Operate steel-face and rubber-tire rollers to pack gravel or asphalt road surfaces
• Operate bulk petroleum truck
• Bridge and culvert work: repair and maintain bridges and culverts. Work can be hazardous. Requires operation of heavy equipment including crane, backhoes, and knuckleboom trucks
• Gravel operation: involves placing gravel and maintaining gravel roads. Requires high degree of skill & knowledge. Safety factor is very critical. Operation of heavy equipment, motor graders, loaders, truck/trailer units, and rollers
• Asphalt operation: involves placing asphalt. Requires high degree of skill and knowledge. Safety factor is very critical. Requires operation of heavy equipment, motor graders, loaders, truck/trailer units, and rollers
• Removes brush and vegetation from roadways
• Inspects and maintains equipment and supplies such as tires, lights, brakes, gas, oil and water
• Performs emergency roadside repairs on equipment such as changing tires, installing light bulbs, and tire chains
• Performs other work as required

Qualifications

  • Patching holes
  • Operation of equipment

  Skills:

  • Work independently and meet schedules and timelines
  • Maintaining equipment by performing critical service work
  • Knowledge of safety precautions while performing specific duties

  Job Environment:

  • 8-10 hour shifts
  • Occasionally 12-14 hour shifts, when needed
  • Maybe on call 24 hours/day, 7 days/week (holidays and weekends)
  • Two 15 minute breaks and 30 minute lunch per 8 hour shift, OT may be required
  • Work will be primarily in a noisy environment
  • Employee will be exposed to outdoor weather
  • Will be working in natural or fluorescent light
  • Will work in large open spaces or small spaces for repairs
  • Grip strength: 60-80# for various tools, shoveling, and lifting and equipment operation
  • Lifting: up to 100# for blades, chains, tires, rims, oil drums, etc
  • Carry: up to 50# for parts, tools, etc
  • Push/pull: up to 60# for welding cart, dollies, tools, etc
