Overview:

This position manages the Plant Service staff, coordinates and oversees inspections, and ensures safe operating conditions throughout the hospital. The employee performs other plant operations duties when the Director is unavailable.

Responsibilities:

Essential Functions:

  • Supervises and monitors the performance of the Facilities Maintenance Technicians, Facilities Maintenance Workers and Floor Technicians ensuring that personnel are working in a safe, efficient and productive manner.
  • Monitors staff compliance with hospital and departmental policies and procedures. Provides counsel and discipline on policies and procedures appropriately in the daily supervision of the Plant Operations Department.
  • Ensures that all state regulatory documents and inspections are accurate and current.
  • Coordinates and monitors the performance management program for the Plant Operations Department.
  • Coordinates building and maintenance repairs with vendors, staff, and the Director of Operations Support.
  • Schedules and monitors the floor care activities, program and staff.
  • Serves as the Designated Life Safety Program Functional Leader which includes the coordination of all fire life safety inspections, drills, and documentation in keeping with regulatory requirements. Schedules and supervises fire drills in keeping with requirements.
  • Provides staff education and training on Fire Safety to include, but not limited to, responding to fires and smoke situations during exercises.
  • Provides assistance to the Director of Facilities Support in monitoring department staff attendance and time keeping.
  • Orders equipment, supplies and tools and maintains inventory for the Plant Operations Department. Communicates with other leaders in planning for effectively utilizing these resources. Manages equipment use in a safe and effective manner, preventing unnecessary repairs and replacement.
  • Consistently monitors supply costs in an effort to reduce Plant Operations Department spending on resources.
  • Participates and contributes in all required meetings for the hospital and department. Holds monthly meetings with staff to communicate relevant hospital and departmental business.
  • Attends all continuing education, in-services and programs as required.
  • Assists with managing, documenting and investigating incidents and accidents to determine contributing factors and details regarding the incident. Ensures that notifications are complete and appropriate documentation and interventions are in place. Forwards documentation to Human Resources within appropriate timeframes.
  • Participates in the cleanliness of the work environment.
  • Assists and participates in activities related to the inspection/investigation of the hospital by regulatory or accrediting agencies.
  • Conducts orientation for new staff members within an efficient timeframe, including safety and infection control practices specific to the department, and interdepartmental relationships.
  • Evaluates each employee's performance on an annual basis.
  • Completes 90-day evaluations for each new or transferred employee in a timely manner.
  • Documents and reports any complaints from patients/visitors/physicians to supervisor.
  • Provides assistance in the development and review of departmental policies and procedures as well as disaster preparedness and response activities.
  • Manages employees in resolving disputes among co-workers, elevating matters to the Manager of Plant Operations and/or Human Resources when appropriate.
  • Supports and demonstrates practices consistent with the hospital’s mission, philosophy, standards, policies and procedures.
  • Maintains and repairs electrical equipment throughout the facility.
  • Emergency duty may be required of the incumbent that includes working in special needs or Red Cross shelters or to perform other emergency duties including, but not limited to, responses to threats or disasters, man-made or natural.
Qualifications:

Education:

  • High School Diploma or GED required.

Experience:

  • Minimum of two (2) years experience preferred in the related field of plant or facilities operations; along with a minimum of year (1) years supervisory experience.
