Overview:

Unique opportunity to work with a multidiscplinary team.
Research and some clinical time. Working hours are negotiable between 32 and 40 per week.

Family Nurse Practioner with background in pediatrics, neurology or genetics who is interested in learning about rare genetic
brain diseases in children and adults and participate as a member of a multidisciplinary team to provide comprehensive care
to patients with leukodystrophies and neurogenetics diseases and participate as a team member in innovative clinical research and clinical trials.
Predominately research focused with some clinical time.

Responsibilities:
  • Conducts comprehensive or episodic health assessments of patients with real, potential, acute, and/or chronic health problems. Problems may include psychosocial, cognitive, and personal asset limitations of the patient/family.
  • Performs health screenings, requests orders, and performs and interpret tests. Establishes medical and nursing diagnosis; orders and evaluates diagnostic studies; performs and monitors therapeutic procedures; assesses and/or manages follow-up plans.
  • Assesses chronic health problems and refers patients to attending or primary provider when appropriate. Collaborates with other professionals to develop and implement a plan of care for the child, adolescent, or adult with an emphasis on wellness.
  • Prescribes and monitors medications, including dosage, side effects, and adjustments.
  • Records and documents health assessment data necessary in order to maintain, coordinate, and/or expedite required services.
  • Assumes responsibility and accountability for time management, professional relationships, interpersonal interactions and professional self-development. Remains current in clinical practice by attending relevant continuing education.
  • Provides health education to caregivers and members of the multidisciplinary team concerning health issues such as medication administration, illness management, and disease prevention. Teaches children, adolescents, and adults about good health practices.
  • Treats acute and minor illness.
  • Develops, conducts, and/or evaluates formal and informal in-service and continuing education programs in area(s) of expertise for peer group and other disciplines.
  • Participates in the research process by assisting others in applying scientific knowledge in nursing practice. Enhances nursing research quality and clinical relevance by promoting nursing knowledge in clinical services and providing knowledge about how clinical services should be delivered.
  • Participates in departmental, functional unit, and hospital committees as assigned.
  • Serves as a clinical preceptor for nursing students, including nurse practitioner candidates.
  • Advocates for patients with developmental disabilities within medical, community, and school arenas.
  • Participates in developing and implementing quality assurance programs.

Qualifications:

QUALIFICATIONS:


  • Registered nurse licensure and certification as a nurse practitioner required by the State of Maryland.
  • Board certification as a Family Nurse Practitioner from an approved organization by the Maryland State Board of Nursing, including the American Academy of Nurse Practitioners Certification Board and the American Nurses Credentialing Center.
    • Individual must demonstrate competence across all age groups due to the diversity of the children and adults served by Kennedy Krieger Institute.
    • Clinical care focus is on the pediatric and adult population.

EDUCATION:

  • Master of Science in Nursing (MSN) with a Family Nurse Practitioner specialty required.
  • Completion of a nurse practitioner program approved by the Maryland Board of Nursing required.


EXPERIENCE


  • Two years of related clinical nursing experience required.
