Duties and Responsibilities
Loyola University Chicago, College of Arts and Sciences, Department of Fine and Performing Arts seeks qualified candidates for an appointment as Lecturer in Photography and Video, beginning Fall 2023. The Department of Fine and Performing Arts’ Fine Arts Division has 12 full-time faculty serving approximately 130 undergraduate art majors and is located on the university’s Lakeshore Campus. For more information about the department, please visit its web site at http://ww.luc.edu/dfpa.
Located on Chicago’s vibrantly multicultural North Side, LUC is committed to creating an inclusive, responsive community of faculty, students, and staff. As an urban-based Department of Fine and Performing Arts dedicated to mentoring a diverse student body, many of whom come from under-represented and under-served populations, we especially encourage applications from candidates from under-represented groups. We also encourage applications from scholars committed to interdisciplinarity (i.e., working with colleagues across different subfields and disciplines) and the successful pursuit of external grants.
The position includes teaching four undergraduate courses per semester in photography and video within a liberal arts context. The position also includes service obligations, such as participating in Senior Capstone critiques, attending division and departmental meetings, and managing some facilities and equipment. The ideal candidate will assist in course design, development of facilities, and acquisition of resources in order to integrate instruction related to video, installation, and experimental applications of lens-based media into the existing curriculum that focuses primarily on still images (photography).

Qualifications
Applicants should possess a Master of Fine Arts or equivalent terminal degree from an accredited university, evidence of successful college-level teaching experience in photography and video, and a record of a studio practice with lens-based media. Experience managing digital labs and equipment is also preferred. We seek candidates whose teaching and creative practices are grounded in contemporary art and interdisciplinarity. Candidates should have the ability to teach various levels of undergraduate digital photography courses that are informed by current technical and conceptual approaches to art making with the medium. We are particularly interested in candidates who also have experience in teaching lens-based courses beyond photography, such as video art and moving image. The candidate should be willing to support the mission of LUC and the goals of a Jesuit Catholic Education.
