Statement of the Job:

Full-time, 40 hour per week, 5 days per week, schedule to be determined. Position is ongoing with a 10-month work year from mid-August to mid-June. Enjoy summers off and excellent benefits including health coverage and tuition waivers for employees and their dependents. This position pays $18.30/hr.


The Culinary Associate performs a variety of tasks in a food service operation related to the coordination, preparation and delivery of food and dining services to University students, staff, faculty and the general public.


Essential duties include, but are not limited to:

  • Prepares a variety of standard and non-standard menu items.
  • Coordinates and/or participates in the setting up and tearing down serving venues.
  • Decorates, packages and delivers baked goods.
  • Operates all food service equipment and machinery.
  • Interacts and serves the customer demonstrating positive customer service skills.
  • Participates in the cleaning & sanitizing of kitchens; may open or close and secure kitchen and dining facilities.
  • Maintains records of foods prepared, served, and supplies used.
  • Assists with orders and inventories.
  • Responsible for proper practice of safety and sanitation techniques.
  • Documents according to HACCP guidelines from food preparation to storage.
  • Keeps current on appropriate ServSafe procedures

This position is considered a University of Maine Dining Services position through June 30, 2023. UMaine Dining Services employees hired between now and June 30, 2023 will be offered positions with Sodexo, effective July 1, 2023.

Qualifications:

Required:

  • High school diploma or equivalent (G.E.D.) AND sufficient experience, including one year food preparation experience.
  • Knowledge of and experience in food service.
  • Demonstrated customer service principles and experience providing exemplary customer service.
  • Knowledge of basic computer skills; proven organization skills; attention to detail along with experience managing multiple tasks.
  • Demonstrated oral and written communications skills necessary, to communicate with the staff, public and all levels of the campus community.
  • Position requires understanding labels and a desire to gain a working knowledge of safety and sanitation practices.
  • Must work effectively and cooperatively with other members of the Dining Services team, UMaine administration, the campus community, and other external clients and customers.
  • Ability to lift up to 50 pounds.
  • Valid driver's license.

Preferred:

  • Knowledge of menu planning.
