Overview
Performs a range of independent skilled field activities, such as testing for leakage, and handling residential and some small commercial account activity, including appliance work.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

Performs duties to Company guidelines and established safety procedures.
Ensure customer understands and is satisfied with work completed.
Responds to and tests for leakage in underground piping, houseline, and appliances at customers- premises.
Repair inoperative appliances, adjust appliances, and provide parts replacement.
Performs high bill investigations for residential and some small commercial customers.
Conducts carbon monoxide testing for residential and some small commercial customers
Responds to emergency incidents and initiates appropriate action.
Operates and maintains a wide variety of tools and instruments.
Extracts information from and inputs data into computer systems.
Provides technical guidance and on-the-job training to other employees.
Responsible for accurate documentation and reporting of work completed.
Responsible for the safe operation and driver inspection of Company vehicles.
Assists other work groups, as needed.
Performs various other equivalent and lower-grade functions that the employee has been trained.
Contacts Frequent contacts include: customers and various Company employees, supervisors and contractors. Must effectively contact customers and other public contacts. Must communicate clearly and effectively

Minimum Qualifications:
Successful candidates must possess a valid California driver's license and a safe driving record.
Must possess a minimum of one (1) year of experience on either gas-fired appliance diagnostics/repairs and/or related HVAC control systems, OR a minimum of one (1) year of trade (Plumbing, electrical, heating)/technical college coursework in maintenance or utility programs, or a certificate in HVAC, Plumbing or Electrical.
Must be able to climb and carry a ladder without assistance.
Must be able to lift objects weighing 50 pounds without assistance.
Must be able to crawl underneath homes or in attics.
Selected candidates must pass a pre-qualification examination, physical abilities test, pass a structured panel interview and formalized training, pre-employment drug screen. Incumbents will participate in the D.O.T random drug testing program.

Preferred Qualifications:
Experience using various electronic tools, including gas testing equipment and a hand-held computer device to document service activities. Testing equipment, vehicles. Candidates must possess a valid California driver's license and a safe driving record, basic computer skills, strong mechanical skills, ability to follow instructions and customer contact skills.

Other:
Tools and training are furnished by the Company.

Employees are represented by a bargaining unit.
