General Grounds Worker

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS: Performs grounds keeping functions, general labor and maintenance activities at facilities that are managed by the Public Building Authority (“PBA”) by performing the following duties.

ADDITIONAL JOB FUNCTIONS: To perform this job successfully, an individual should have working knowledge the items listed below.

1. Maintains clean and attractive grounds.
2. Ensures that sites are litter and debris free at all times.
3. Ensures that all exterior drains are free and clear of debris such as paper, dirt, leaves and twigs at all times.
4. Trims and edges around walks, flower beds, and walls.
5. Cuts lawns.
6. Prunes shrubs and trees to shape and improve growth or remove damaged leaves, branches, or twigs.
7. Replaces and properly stores grounds keeping tools, supplies and equipment.
8. Rakes or vacuums and bags leaves as needed.
9. Assists horticulturist with all activities related to the maintenance of plant materials.

MINIMUM TRAINING AND QUALIFICATIONS: High school diploma or general education degree
(GED) is desirable. General understanding of site maintenance and grounds care and a minimum of one (1) year of related work experience are required. Valid TN Driver’s License required. Sprayer
Certification preferred.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS: The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. While performing the duties of this job:

The employee is regularly required to:

1. Perform strenuous manual labor for extended periods in unfavorable weather conditions.
2. Walk up to five (5) miles during assigned shift.
3. Walk up and down stairs and embankments during assigned shift.
4. Lift and/or move and carry items and equipment weighing up to fifty (50) pounds.
5. Climb and balance on ladders.
6. Traverse uneven terrain.
7. Use hands and fingers to handle and manipulate tools and equipment, and feel dryness or moisture and heat or cold.
8. Reach with hands and arms.
9. Stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl.
10. Talk and hear within normal range.
11. Smell and identify different odors.

The employee is frequently required to:

1. Lift and/or move and carry items and equipment weighing up to seventy-five (75) pounds.
2. Work in high places and/or close, confined spaces and areas.

Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and ability to adjust focus.

SALARY: $14.07
