Group Care Coordinator
Normal Working Hours/Days: Up to 20 hours per week. Days to be assigned. February 1, 2021 – May 28, 2021 & 2021-2022 school year
The Group Care Coordinator is a Master’s level trained staff that will provide group counseling sessions in assigned schools located in the Jefferson County School system. The Group Care Coordinator will lead assigned group sessions to students in elementary, middle, and high schools. The Group Care Coordinator will work closely with the Jefferson County Schools’ Mental Health Coordinator, Director of Student Support, and Guidance Counselors to design group sessions and identify students needing this service.
PRIMARY JOB FUNCTIONS
Provide group therapy to assigned students at assigned schools on a weekly basis.
Properly assess need and devise group therapy session topics and modules to meet the needs of the assigned students.
Work closely with the staff at Jefferson County Schools to implement services.
Develop and maintain detailed and accurate group records and process notes.
Provide accurate documentation in debriefing for monthly reports/meetings as stipulated by program demands.
Performs other administrative duties as required.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
Master’s Degree in psychology, counseling, social work or behavioral sciences related field from an accredited university required. Applicant must have completed a Master’s level internship. Licensed applicants preferred but not required.
Valid Alabama driver’s license and a suitable automobile to permit the required travel. Must show car insurance equal to or in excess of the State of Alabama standards for automobile insurance coverage.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES
Knowledge of the special needs and behavioral characteristics of severely emotionally and behaviorally disturbed children.
Knowledge of child and adolescent development, trauma, and special education needs and services.
Knowledge of the legal and ethical issues relative to confidentiality of client records and the ability to interpret and apply them within the scope of the care coordination responsibilities.
Knowledge of group therapy.
Ability to use creativity in designing topics and activities for group sessions.
Ability to communicate effectively with school staff.
Ability and willingness to document activities and maintain records.
Skilled in interpersonal relationships and dynamics.
Strong written and expressive communication skills.
