Position: Health & Safety Manager

Location: Warwick, NY

Summary:

The Health & Safety Manager will be responsible for designing and supporting the Health and Safety Functions for all Divisions of Meeco Sullivan.

Job Duties and Responsibilities

  • Implement a behavior-based safety program for every operating company with the support of companies Risk Management Vision.
  • Measure health and safety compliance at each facility location and report to management regularly.
  • Train and develop the health and safety knowledge among managers, supervisors, and employees. Coordinate required federal and state OSHA training. Establish and make available safety and environmental training materials.
  • Ensure consistency of the health and safety orientation for all new employees including pre-employment drug screening. Assist HR in collecting new hire packet.
  • Represent company to our clients on matters of safety. Write site specific health and safety plans in coordination with Project Manager.
  • Review and track Health and Safety Audits. Follow-up with each location to ensure the correction of noted deficiencies.
  • Serve as company expert in health and safety to be a resource of information to solve health and safety problems in field. Monitor compliance of the health and safety program in field and audit reports.
  • Keep current on all new legislative policies, company policies and procedures, and current industry trends. Keep personnel informed of any new or changes in local, state, or federal environmental guidelines or laws.
  • Meet with each division manager monthly to review upcoming work for consulting on health and safety activities. Support all facility management teams to identify potential health and safety issues.
  • Monitor compliance with testing and recording all potential unsafe environmental conditions such as air quality, noise levels, and chemical exposures.
  • Investigate/coordinate the investigation of all accidents, injuries, and near-miss incidents to determine cause and method of prevention. Assist in the implementation of the appropriate corrective action. Determine fault for all auto accidents.
  • Coordinate monthly H&S Safety Committee meetings.
  • Represent company to Construction Manager clients, OSHA, and other compliance officers during field inspections and for any health safety citation. Attend WC and OSHA hearings with company counsel.
  • Company representation to business community for industry safety programs. Responsible to build and maintain the standing and reputation of company in the community.

Job Requirements:

  • High School Diploma required; bachelor’s degree preferred
  • Knowledge of manufacturing and construction industries and general industry health and safety rules for compliance.
  • Familiar with modern computer and communication systems.
  • Public speaking to groups for training. Spanish helpful.
  • OSHA 500/501 Safety certifications preferable but not required.
  • Industrial hygiene certifications preferable but not required.
