Position Summary Information

Job Description Summary
This person is responsible for assisting the Industrial Safety Program Coordinator which includes teaching Industrial Safety courses. The Assistant Coordinator works a maximum of 29 hours per week.

Duties & Responsibilities
MAJOR DUTIES
  • Prepares and teaches short-term, in-person industrial safety courses.
  • Conducts outreach to existing client base.
  • Markets trainings to prospective clients.
  • Initiates and develops new classes as needed.
  • Schedules classes and facilities.
  • Generates certificates and completion cards.
  • Responsible for administrative record keeping.
  • Interfaces with Registrar’s Office and Business Office.
  • Responsibilities include ensuring instructors are possess proper certification and credentials.
  • Monitors and orders supplies.
  • Resolves student issues and concerns or refers to coordinator.
  • Communicates with the coordinator either in person, email, or phone.
  • Performs related duties.

KNOWLEDGE REQUIRED BY THE POSITION
  • Knowledge of standard industry safety protocols.
  • Knowledge of federal safety regulations.

  • Knowledge of Industrial Safety courses offered by the School of Energy.
  • Knowledge of college policies and procedures.
  • Skill in the operation of computers and job-related software programs.
  • Skill in oral and written communication.
  • Skill in working effectively with a wide range of learners in a diverse community.

SUPERVISORY CONTROLS
The Assistant Coordinator of Industrial Safety assists the Coordinator in assigning work in terms of program goals and objectives.
GUIDELINES
Guidelines include School of Energy policies and procedures, OSHA standards, commonly accepted industrial safety processes, the employee handbook and college and program policies and procedures. These guidelines require judgment, selection, and interpretation in application.
COMPLEXITY/SCOPE OF WORK
The work consists of varied online duties of both instruction and managing job related tasks. The related tasks include but are not limited to writing and responding to email, participating in required trainings, contributing to meetings, updating courses, etc.
CONTACTS
  • Contacts are typically with industry partners, employer partners, class participants, co-workers, other college personnel, faculty, staff, and members of the general public.
  • Contacts are typically to give or exchange information with the knowledge of the coordinator.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS/ WORK ENVIRONMENT
The work is typically performed while sitting at a desk or table with a computer in an office or in front of a classroom either on SJC campus or at a client location.

Qualifications
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
  • Knowledge and level of competency commonly associated with the completion of an associate’s degree or a minimum of eight (8) years of experience in a related technical field.
  • Experience sufficient to thoroughly understand the work and to be able to answer questions with relevant examples based upon prior experiences as well as resolve problems.
