Information Systems Auditor

The Comptroller of the Treasury is recruiting an Information Systems Auditor within the Division of State Audit. Information Systems Auditors are responsible for external audit work in accordance with professional auditing standards. Responsibilities may include examining and reviewing records, reports, financial statements, information systems, and management practices for state government entities and other organizations receiving public funds. Information Systems Auditors may assist in evaluating:

  • The fairness of financial statement presentation,
  • The adequacy of internal controls,
  • Data integrity for application systems,
  • Compliance with laws, regulations, contracts, and grant agreements, and/or
  • The efficiency and effectiveness of an entity’s operations.

Major responsibilities will include:

  • Examine general and application-specific controls, including those related to security management, access controls, change management, segregation of duties, contingency planning, and business processes.
  • Create neat, concise, logical, and well-supported working papers that comply with auditing standards and best practices.
  • Perform quality data analyses that accurately support the audit opinion and findings with proper perspective.
  • Ensure that written and verbal communications are clear and easily understood by all stakeholders, such as the General Assembly, local governing bodies, elected officials, the media, citizens of the State of Tennessee, and the federal government.
  • Seek opportunities for innovation and increased efficiency to improve and support the office’s mission to make government work better.
  • Make effective use of the auditee’s time and professionally represent the Comptroller’s Office.

Qualifications

  • Graduate of an accredited college or university with a bachelor's degree in accounting, computer information systems, computer science, information security, or data analytics.
  • Coursework in computer information systems, information security, computer science, or data analytics is a plus.
  • A Certified Public Accountant (CPA) license or a Certified Information Systems Auditor (CISA) certification are not required for employment, but obtaining one or both certifications is strongly encouraged.
  • Other combinations of education and experience, if evaluated as equivalent, may qualify an applicant for consideration.

A successful employee in this role possesses the competencies to learn quickly, be open to change, pay attention to detail, ensure accuracy, think critically and problem solve, apply logic, produce high-quality results, and collaborate in a team environment. Auditors must be able to exercise good judgment in evaluating situations and making decisions, and to express ideas clearly, concisely, and convincingly.

Travel

This position is located in Middle Tennessee, and is a hybrid position. Occasional overnight travel is required within the state. The frequency of travel required is dependent upon assignment. Assignments are based on business need, but employee preference for travel is taken into consideration.

Compensation

The Comptroller’s Office offers a competitive salary and comprehensive benefits package that includes twelve days each of annual leave and sick leave, insurance plans, retirement plan, 401(k), college fee waivers, and much more. Our Office values work life balance with a standard 37.5-hour work week and flexible schedules for employees, that include the ability to work from home up to 3 days a week.
