Executes the GFUS technical Innovation process: Identification, development and assessment of new / novel raw materials, technologies, and processes for integration into Griffith Foods product offerings – to drive differentiating and sustainable sales for the business, and more effectively position Griffith in the market as an Innovator.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities:
  • Applies knowledge of food science, chemistry, microbiology, biology, physics, and other scientific disciplines in the identification and scientific manipulation of potential new materials, technologies, and processes for the Technical Innovation funnel.
  • Works as a scientist to develop unique raw materials, technologies and/or processes (potentially patentable) using appropriate scientific methodologies such as Design of Experiments and others to validate and deliver for integration into Griffith Foods product offerings.
  • Applies and promotes scientific and engineering principles in research, development, process technology, production, packaging, and utilization of foods.
  • Assesses and develops new / novel raw materials, technologies and processes of intermediate to advanced complexity; unique use of materials in product applications; technology transfer from another industry.
  • Conduct daily laboratory work to include:
  • Experimental design and documentation
  • development and preparation of bench-top prototypes
  • Evaluation of prototypes using sensory, physical, and/or analytical methods
  • Documentation, reporting, and communication of experimental results, conclusions, and next steps.
  • Supports the Product Development team with targeted commercial development projects directly related to Innovation initiatives.
  • Supports the commercial delivery of new / novel technologies. This includes technical support for production trials of new products both internally and at the customer location(s).
  • Supports and/or leads training programs or information transfer process from the Innovation area to Product Development and other functions as required.
  • Supports and/or manages the global roll-out of GFUS technologies as directed by Project Plans.
  • Supports and/or manages the assessment of GF WW technologies
  • Independently manages multiple priorities and timelines and uses strong technical and problem-solving skills to approach intermediate to complex projects (6 months – 2 years in length),
  • Keeps up to date on technical skills and knowledge through reading and training.
  • Generates technical reports relating to active innovation initiatives and contributes to and updates Innovation Laboratory Notebook (OneNote) and Innovation portal site with technical documentation regularly.
  • Adheres to all company and department procedures, protocols, and GMPs.
  • Maintains GLP’s and enhances security of all department technical documentation – i.e. product formulations, intellectual property, and related confidential information.
Qualifications:
  • BS or MS degree in Food Science, Chemical Engineering/Chemistry or related fields.
  • 3 years relevant experience.
  • Pure and applied research experience.
  • In-depth understanding of scientific/experimental process and good scientific practices.
  • Knowledge of and experience with DOE (Design of Experiments) methodology.
  • Exposure to a range of food product forms and processes.
  • Solid knowledge of ingredient functionality across a wide range of ingredients.
  • Demonstrated ability to set up and conduct experiments.
  • Ability to develop and commercialize new technologies/process improvements.
  • Able to travel to customers, facilities, universities and academia as needed.
  • Computer skills to work with all different environments, including Outlook, Excel and Microsoft Office.
