Job purpose
The network administrator position directs and coordinates network and computerized management information systems and staff.

Duties and responsibilities

Keep an eye out for needed updates- Support third-party applications
- Set up workstations with computers and necessary peripheral devices
- Set up user accounts, permissions, and passwords
- Provide orientation and guidance to users on how to operate new software and computer equipment
- Resolve problems reported by end users
- 2-way radio programing
- Cell phone /VOIP phone configuration and deployment
- Update documentation of network configurations and cabling layouts
- Introduce users to office productivity applications
- Maintain, and test disaster recovery plans
- Perform analysis of network needs and contributes to design of network architecture, integration, and installation.
- Organize and schedule upgrades and maintenance without deterring others from completing their work
- Maintain records/logs of repairs and fixes and maintenance schedule
- Identify computer or network equipment shortages and notify management
- Cabling, Terminating CAT5e, CAT6, Fiber OM3
- Reviewing support tickets and keeping notes to enter into knowledge base.
Competencies
- Proven experience in an IT Technician role
- Hands on experience in networking, routing, and switching, ADUC, MS Azure
- Excellent knowledge of best practices around management, control, and monitoring of server infrastructure
- Experience with firewalls, Internet VPN’s, remote implementation, troubleshooting, and problem resolution is desired
- Ability to set up and configure desktop hardware
- Familiarity with backup and recovery software and methodologies
- Great at organizing, prioritizing, and multitasking
Work Environment
This job operates in a professional office environment on the shipyard. This role routinely uses standard office equipment such as computers, phones, photocopiers, filing cabinets and fax machines. Routinely, there will be a need for the incumbent to work/walk Lyon shipyard and all areas therein.

The employee must occasionally lift or move up to 25 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by the job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and the ability to adjust focus.
Position Type/ Expected Hours of Work
This is a full-time position. Days and hours of work are Monday through Friday. This position periodically requires long hours and weekend work. Regular and predictable on-site attendance is an essential function and a prerequisite to perform other essential functions of the position.
Travel
Travel is primarily local during the business day, although some out-of-area and overnight travel may be expected.
Required Education and Experience
Associates degree in Computer Science or related field of at least 5 years’ experience as network/systems administrator.
