Job Description
The School of Music and Department of Film Studies at The University of Tulsa seek to hire a tenure-track Assistant or Associate Professor of Music and Film to fill the J. Donald Feagin Professorship in Music and Film Studies. The successful candidate will have professional experience and teaching experience in Music Composition, Film Scoring, Music Production and Video Game Scoring. Additionally, experience in audio recording and sound editing would be welcome. Film scoring is an integral part of the Bachelor of Music in Composition and Film Studies at The University of Tulsa and is essential for a complete education in film. Similarly, music production and technology, composition and arranging are an essential part of any students’ musical education. The Simulation and Gaming program at TU, particularly the design emphasis, also offers students the option of taking courses in video game music scoring as part of their curriculum.

Additional areas of research and teaching expertise are welcome. Past examples include Music and Film (Hollywood Film Music), The Music of the Harry Potter Films, Music of the Lord of the Rings Film Epic, and Music and Italian Cinema. Offerings aimed at non-majors are expected and dependent upon the faculty member’s expertise. The successful candidate will also lead in the management of the Film Scoring Lab.

Filmmaking in the state of Oklahoma is flourishing due to the state film incentives, so the possibility of local and regional collaborations is great. There is also the potential, as has been done in the past, of hosting visiting film and video game composers on campus and collaborating with our local non-profit movie theater, Circle Cinema, in presenting or participating in special programs.

TU is a small, private university with approximately 4000 undergraduate and graduate students located in midtown Tulsa, 2 miles from downtown. Both areas are undergoing an exciting period of growth and are home to vibrant art and music scenes. The city of Tulsa has benefited from enormous growth in its arts and cultural spheres in recent years. New additions include the museums, Greenwood Rising, The Bob Dylan Center, The Wood Guthrie Center, and The OK Pop Museum, as well as the award-winning park, The Gathering Place, that sits on 100 acres in the middle of Tulsa’s historic Maple Ridge neighborhood. Tulsa is a mid-sized (population ~400,000), family-friendly, affordable place to live, with easy access to urban, suburban, and rural areas. Oklahoma is geographically diverse, including plains, grasslands, rocky mesas, and mountains, and is culturally unique as it is home to 39 federally-recognized Native American tribes.

Required Qualifications
Applicants are required to possess either a relevant terminal degree or a master’s degree with coursework in the areas of instruction and a minimum of five years of directly relevant professional experience. The successful candidate will have professional experience and teaching experience in Music Composition, Film Scoring, Music Production and Video Game Scoring.
