Job Description Summary
This position is responsible for supporting the instructor in student lab exercises in the Instrumentation Controls and Electrical Technology program.

Duties & Responsibilities
MAJOR DUTIES
  • Works with students to model hands-on lab exercises.


  • Guides students in the proper methods for the task.

  • Ensures student safety during experiential learning activities in the lab.

  • Attends classroom lectures and contributes insights as applicable.

  • Performs related duties.

KNOWLEDGE REQUIRED BY THE POSITION
  • Knowledge and experience in industrial instrumentation, controls, and electrical technology, including but not limited to electrical theory, motor control, industrial wiring, industrial measurement concepts and techniques, process controls, PLC, etc.

  • Knowledge of common industrial safety standards.

  • Skilled in problem solving.

  • Skill in working cooperatively with diverse groups of students.

  • Skill in oral and written communication, specifically including the ability to read, interpret and present safety related instructions in common language and the ability to explain concepts in multiple ways.

  • Computer skills sufficient to handle various college systems and to access information online.

SUPERVISORY CONTROLS
None.

GUIDELINES
Guidelines include Technology Advisory Council guidelines, OSHA and other safety standards, and college policies and procedures. These guidelines require judgment, selection, and interpretation in application.

COMPLEXITY / SCOPE OF WORK
  • The work consists of varied supportive duties and a large amount of communications interface with diverse students. The variety of tasks to be managed contributes to the complexity of the position.

  • The purpose of this position is to assist the instructor in providing high quality hands-on learning, safety and various experiential learning opportunities. Success in the position contributes to the efficient and effective education of students and to the safe operations and overall success of the college.

  • Contacts are typically with students, instructors and staff.

  • Contacts are typically to give or exchange information, to resolve problems, to provide services, or to motivate or influence persons.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS / WORK ENVIRONMENT
  • The work is typically performed while standing in the lab, while sitting at a desk or table or while intermittently sitting, standing, and stooping. The employee occasionally lifts light objects up to 25 lbs, uses tools or equipment requiring a high degree of dexterity, distinguishes between shades of color, and utilizes the senses of hearing and smell.

  • The work is typically performed in an office, laboratory or classroom. The employee is exposed to machinery with moving parts, electric power including high voltage lines, steam lines, caustic chemicals, and other equipment. Work requires the use of protective devices such as masks, goggles, gloves, etc.

Qualifications
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
  • Graduate of the Instrumentation Controls and Electrical Technology Program with either an AAS Degree or Certificate.
  • Possession of or ability to readily obtain a valid driver’s license issued by the State of New Mexico for the type of vehicle or equipment operated.
