NAES is looking for a Lead Control Room Operator to work in Tonopah, AZ. This is a position can be worked as a temp to hire or strictly contract. If worked as a contract, a 3–6 month duration is preferred. This is a combinee cycle plant. The plant has three 501-G units each rated at 313 MW Steam TG 160. This position pays $55/hr. Summary:

The Lead Control Room Operator (CRO) is responsible for proper operation of the power facility and has the capability to operate and maintain plant equipment. The Lead CRO has oversight for all activities of the Control Room, ensures that alarms and upset conditions are properly cleared, reported and that operations personnel take appropriate corrective actions. The Lead CRO strictly adheres to all safety and environmental rules and regulations to protect employees and public safety, as well as coordinates the operational activities performed on shift without oversight.

Primary Duties: This position directs other staff members, as assigned, to perform everyday operational activities to include:

  • Communicating plant issues and keeping the Operations Manager and/or Plant Manager fully informed of unusual conditions, damaged equipment, and current job progress as the job relates to facility operations
  • Providing guidance to the Operations staff to operate and maintain a combined cycle generating facility and all associated auxiliary and support equipment. This position requires making operating decisions based on plant procedures, environmental regulations, safety procedures, and using good judgment based on operating data
  • Proficiency at operating the plant through the distributed control system (DCS) Able to read meters, gauges, or automatic devices to record operating data such as temperature, vibration, pressure, and fluid levels to verify operating conditions. Visually inspects and listens to equipment at periodic intervals to detect malfunctions or need for repair, adjustment or lubrication
  • Using PI-Process Book to review and analyze data to identify performance or reliability issues with plant equipment
  • Overseeing the HRSG cycle chemistry and cooling water systems to ensure water chemistry is within proper control ranges. Will work with Operators and water treatment vendor to properly monitor overall chemistry program and make adjustments as needed
  • Overseeing the demineralized water system in accordance with OEM and plant procedures and monitor demineralized water to ensure quality is within acceptable limits

Job Qualifications

  • Ability to understand procedures and instructions specific to the area of assignment as would be acquired in four years of high school Associate Degree in a technical field desirable
  • Experience as a Control Room Operator is required
  • Extensive working knowledge of power plant industry desirable
  • Must be able to demonstrate knowledge of all facets of power plant operations with an emphasis in combined cycle generation as well as the ability to make competent decisions in emergency situations
  • Experience in water chemistry control, analysis of water conditions, water treatment facility operations and chemical handling requirements is required
