Job Description - Preschool Lead Teacher

Job Summary

Kalamazoo Country Day School seeks to hire an enthusiastic, hardworking, and inspiring Lead Teacher for our growing preschool program. The successful applicant will be responsible for the education and supervision of our youngest children (ages 2 ½ -3 ½ ). We are looking for applicants who are passionate about the growth and development of children and who have experience as a lead teacher in a preschool/daycare setting. Experience with Creative Curriculum is a plus but not required.

Specific Duties of the Job

• Have an awareness of the unique needs of young children and have appropriate expectations.
• Ensure the safety and well-being of each child by responding to their emotional, social, and physical needs as well as their educational needs.
• Encourage children's involvement in activities.
• Maintain a professional self-image and project the values of the organization at all times.
• Possess a strong work ethic, be punctual, and have minimal absences.
• Establish and maintain good, positive communication with parents and coworkers on a daily basis.
• Plan and implement daily lesson plans based on the assigned curriculum.
• Provide overall classroom management and child discipline to ensure proper care of children.
• Assist children with activities of daily life (restroom use, hand washing, meal times).
• Oversee Teacher Assistants to direct them as to what duties need to be carried out throughout the day and ensure quality standards are maintained.
• Establish a professional level of rapport with each family in order to provide quality care and friendly service.
• Prepare and distribute progress reports and class newsletters to keep parents informed.
• Participate in whole-school functions such as Open House, Concerts, Parent Conferences.
• Work collaboratively with the other Lead Teachers.
• Other duties as assigned.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

• Lead teacher applicants must have a CDA or a Bachelor or Associates Degree in early childhood or a related field.

• 2+ years experience as a Lead Teacher in an early childcare setting preferred
• Must be reliable and dependable demonstrated by consistent attendance and punctuality.
• Ability to be flexible, patient and understanding with both children and adults.
• Possess adequate physical stamina and agility to care for young children.
• Ability to work as an active member of a preschool team.
• Ability to take constructive criticism and implement needed changes.
• Maintain all Michigan Child Care Licensing rules and professional development requirements.

Job Type: Full-time

Pay: $14.00 - $15.00 per hour
