Performs skilled administrative support work providing specialized services and programs for the library, related work as apparent or assigned. Work is performed and supervised under the general direction of the Outreach and Community Engagement Manager. The normal work schedule includes Monday, 8-5 or 9-6, Tuesday, 10-7, Wednesday, 8-5, Thursday, 8-5, Friday, 8-5, and at least one Saturday per month, 8 -2.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
Responsible for providing assistance with children and teen library programs in addition to providing technical and reference assistance to children, parents, teachers, and other customers, at Outreach locations, the Main Library, the Spangler Branch, community partner facilities, and satellite branch locations. Assists in scheduling, planning, and presenting Youth Services programs for infant, toddler, pre-school, school-aged, and teen library customers. Assists in planning, publicizing, and conducting story times, Summer Reading Programs, Battle of the Books and other reading promotions. Will deliver library materials (books, A/V materials, and kits) driving a van or the bookmobile. Instructs customers in how to use the library and its print and electronic resources; assists the public in person, by telephone, or via virtual chat; gives out specific information and instructions. According to the Crew Manual of weeding or the deselection of materials, remove materials from the library's catalog; process inter-library loan requests; process customer hold requests, and requests for new materials.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:
Knowledge of integrated library systems and applications; Microsoft office and/or Google Suite; knowledge of library collection development best practices; materials and research techniques; ability to analyze records and statistics; ability to exercise initiative and independent judgment; ability to communicate ideas effectively both orally and in writing; ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with library customers, library staff, and community partners.

EXPERIENCE & EDUCATION:
High school diploma or GED and 2-3 years of customer service experience or equivalent combination of education and experience.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
This work requires the frequent exertion of up to 10 pounds of force and occasional exertion of up to 50 pounds of force; work frequently using hands to finger, handle or feel and occasionally requires standing, walking, sitting, speaking or hearing, climbing or balancing, stooping, kneeling, crouching or crawling, reaching with hands and arms, pushing or pulling, lifting and repetitive motions; work has standard vision requirements; vocal communication is required for expressing or exchanging ideas by means of the spoken word; hearing is required to perceive information at normal spoken word levels and to receive detailed information through oral communications and/or to make fine distinctions in sound; work requires preparing and analyzing written or computer data, operating motor vehicles or equipment and observing general surroundings and activities; work occasionally requires exposure to outdoor weather conditions; work is generally in a quiet location (e.g. library, private offices).

SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS:
Valid driver's license.
