POSITION SUMMARY:

In conjunction with nursing management, the Licensed Practical Nurse utilizes a general understanding of the principles of nursing and basic physical assessment skills in the development and implementation of individualized nursing care plans to ensure that the needs of the residents are met. He/she assists in the orientation and provides supervision of nursing staff, attends to the daily operations of the unit, and assumes responsibilities of a leadership role.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

  • Takes an active role in direct resident assessment and care.
  • Administers medication and/or treatment to residents as per physicians' orders and in accordance with policies and procedures.
  • Responsible for clinical documentation related to resident treatment and activity according to facility policies.
  • Assists in developing and implementing resident care plan and nursing care plan.
  • Counts and records class drugs beginning and ending of shift.
  • Communicates pertinent data to charge nurse, superior, and/or physician.
  • Provides for emotional and physical comfort and safety of residents.
  • Assists physician in rounds and examination of residents.

  • Supervises and coordinates nursing staff in providing direct resident care in adherence to state, federal, and corporate guidelines, and Human Recourse policies.
  • Effectively utilizes the general principles of leadership and supervision.
  • Ensures that residents and families receive the highest quality of service in a caring and compassionate atmosphere which recognizes the individuals' needs and rights.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

OTHER DUTIES:

  • Interacts with residents, families, visitors, facility and corporate staff.




  • Carries out other tasks as requested in situations where hands-on intervention/participation may be required.
  • May be required to work rotating shifts, holidays, weekends, additional hours, and in different positions as the facility's needs require.
  • Must practice good personal hygiene and follow the dress code requirements.
  • Must provide annual verification of a negative TB skin test as required.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Must be a graduate of an approved school for practical or vocational nursing and must have a current and valid license in the State of Ohio.
  • Experience is preferred in rehabilitative or geriatric nursing.

OTHER QUALIFICATIONS:


  • Must possess understanding, patience, courtesy, and tact when interacting with residents, families, visitors, and staff.
  • Must possess the ability to positively interact with staff, residents, family members, visitors, government agencies, and the general public.
  • Must have thorough knowledge of nursing techniques and practices.
  • Must have thorough knowledge of medications, their proper dosage, and expected results.
  • Must be skilled in handling and manipulating instruments and equipment.
  • Must have thorough knowledge of the specialized procedures applied and equipment used in the area assigned.
  • Must possess the ability to work independently, problem solve and make decisions as necessary.
  • Must have the ability to understand and follow oral and written instructions which may be of a technical nature in the English language.

PHYSICAL INVOLVEMENT:





This is medium to occasionally heavy work requiring a combination of sitting, walking, bending, reaching overhead, climbing stairs, and standing. Frequent use of both upper and lower extremities necessary for ambulation and equilibrium. Frequent use of arms, hands, and fingers. Intact visual, auditory, and verbal capabilities essential. Involves pulling, pushing, moving, carrying, and lifting 75 pounds using proper body mechanics. Performs repetitive and/or continuous tasks. Must be able to assist with resident evacuation in emergencies.

MENTAL INVOLVEMENT:

The ability to utilize language skills to comprehend spoken and written words effectively. Adaptable to multiple and changing priorities and frequent interruptions. Able to maintain composure and interact positively when dealing with residents, family members, staff, visitors, and government agencies. Ability to use judgment in dealing with staff and residents. Ability to function independently. A keen interest in and attention to concrete, detailed activities.

WORK ENVIRONMENT FACTORS:

Location: Indoors; nursing area with linoleum/tile floors and overhead lighting.

Climatic/Atmospheric: Thermostat control located in building. Building is heated and airconditioned. Some irregularities in temperature occur. Subject to odors, fumes.

Type and Level of Noise/Vibration: Exposed to moderate level of noise due to activity of staff, residents, telephone calls, fax, and other equipment.
